I have a 3.5 pounder and a 4 pounder that sleep with me.. well I have two more that do also.. but those are the smaller.. the both have been kinda trained to sleep in the middle of us, up closer to our upper part of our bodies.. they do fine.. I did have a 5 pounder that fell off the bed in the night, and punctured her left lung and the vet said she bled out in ten minutes.. that was a nightmare.. We do not know if she was playing with the other dog at some point, or if she was just too close to the end of the bed and turned over and fell off.. we do not know if somehow we did this to her.. we have never forgotten that.. but we do have a lower bed now.. I would sleep on the floor on a mattress if I had to.. But when she fell of the bed, she got to my closet and died on my shoes.. so what a shock when we woke up.. You can teach them to stay up close to you.. you can also harness her and tie have a lead on her, tie it to the centre of the bed, to ensure she cannot fall off.. our first baby boy after the accident we did this too for a long long time.. so he then learned to stay up in the middle of us.. pooh's mum |
McKenzie is 4 lbs and she sometimes sleeps with us. She typically curls up right between myself and my DH and doesn't move. I put a rolled up fleece blanket between her and my DH as he tends to roll over in the middle of the night. She doesn't wander around the bed though, so she wouldnt take a tumble :p. I've heard that some people put pillows or blankets around their bed just in case :) |
i put pebbles in her little dog bed next to my pillow and for most of the night she rolls around in there, but in the mornings she gets out and wanders around the bed for a good spot. she fell off once, but that was my fault really--the way i had the covers, it looked like there was more firm walking space, so she stepped there and just fell. i was like OH NO!!! but she just rolled back up and wasnt hurt. i hope it doesnt happen again lol. |
I have 2.5lb and she sleeps in her bed on the floor. But sometime when I sleep on the couch, she is curled up next to me. I'm not worried about her falling or squishing:D , we used to sleep on bed as well but never had trouble. I woke up every time when she needs to go patty, I don't know how I woke up but I did. Now that she sleeps on the floor, she barks once when she goes to patty so I can clean her little butt. I think I got maternal love!!! :D |
Kasey has to sleep in his crate at night. He weighs 3 pounds and can't even jump on the low couch on his own, so you can imagine the dangers that falling or jumping off a bed would present.:( |
1 Attachment(s) Mine have doggie steps to the bed, but you know Ryder, Sophie, and Faith are all afraid of jumping off the bed. I have a bunch of body and regular pillows lined up on the left side and I sleep on the right side. Those three sleep in a little spot right beside my head between the pillows and me, and that keeps them from rolling. I've never had a problem with them at all. You can sort of see it in this pic...the steps are beside Maddie (the one in pink up front) |
My little Dovie has slept with me since she was a tiny wee one of 2 1/2 months and less than 2 lbs. She has been the greatest source of comfort and companionship since I shattered my leg in October. Little Dovie sleeps alll night long on my down pillow with her neck across mine. Chattie and Scarlett also sleep with me, but they are a bit bigger. |

All my babies sleep with me and my bf. London and Sophie are 3 lbs and under and they know not to try to jump off the bed. So far we have done fine. London is scared of the edge, she has been on my loft bed before, and she wouldn't even go near the edge cause she just knows. Now she would just sit at the edge and look down like a cat but she knows it would not be good if she fell. |

Both our babies sleep w/ us. Wylie can jump up/down as needed. Marcel has his stairs. :) |
Teddi has always slept with me. She usually sleeps up by my head but sometimes she goes under the covers but whenever I turn over I always feel around for her to make sure I know where she is. I also have a pile of pillows on the side of the bed that are made into stairs so she goes down in the middle of the nite to use her pee pad and then comes back up. Sometimes I don't even know she has gotten off the bed and back up but I see the poop or pee on the pad in the morning so I know that she got down! |
Lulu and Zoey would be allowed up on the bed while I am awake or napping on it alone during the day. When the night time comes it down into your crate to sleep. My bed is very high up and I don't trust to have her up on it while I am sleeping. Plus hubby sleeps very wild and my 3 year old tends to wander into bed with us and my men are something else on the bed. As it is there is not enough room for me there. So to be on the safe side it down into her crate. Some people allow them to sleep on the bed but I am a bit wary for her safety. |
