I have a vendetta gainst a hawk I haven't posted for while, due to computer issues....I swear Microsoft is out to make me insane!! Anyhow do I have a scary story!! This just happened about 35 minutes ago, and I'm still shaky! I was taking some pics of the puppies outside, and went to the patio to look at the pics. Anyhow suddenly I hear the Peanut (tiny boy), screaming bloody murder! I look up, and there's a flippin HAWK trying to make off with the puppy!! WTH, a hawk! Eight years living here, and I have NEVER seen one before! I run towards them screaming and waving my arms, and this bird blew me off!! Luckily my patio broom was close, so I smacked the crap out of this bird. I don't care if it's endangered, it was trying to make off with my Peanut!! It managed to fly up to the wall, where I promptly knocked it off with the broom. I made good contact with that broom, I jacked that bird up! I swear if it comes back I will kill it:mad: ! I am so mad at this bird, poor Peanut is soo scared:( !! |
Ooooo! The thought of you jacking that bird up made me laugh! Thank God you were there to defend them! It's sooooo awful to hear the sad stories about what can happen. I am the biggest animal lover of all animals, but if any predator comes near my babies, it's going down.... I have seen one flying around before when Willow and Biscuit were in my parents' backyard, so I rounded them up and inside we went. I am always looking up in the sky when they are out playing, especially because Willow is only 2 1/2 pounds. SCARY! ps - I have learned that macs save sanity:D !!!!! |
HOLY **** Good Job! My parents are out in AZ and they have hawks too! It's so scarey. My Mom has all sorts of things in the back yard for 'combat' in case something tries something funny  |
 ohhh no !!! Is you Baby ok ???? |
I've heard owls will do this also. I'm so glad you were able to save little peanut. Usually the hawk can swoop down and pick them up before you even have time to react. You and Peanut were very lucky. |
What a close call OMG what a horrible experience. I've thought about things happening like this with my two little yorkies, and what I would do. I'm not sure if we have hawks around here, although there is always a first time. It sounds as though you handled it very well, but i can just imagine how shaky you feel. Wow. That was a close call. I think if it came between the hawk and my two little ones, if I had to, I would kill it, too. Hope that you will be able to calm down soon. Janice |
Oh no! Thank goodness you got outside in time. When I was a kid we lived up against a golf course and there were tons of large birds living in trees. When my mom took our yorkie outside to potty, she would ALWAYS bring a broom. You just never know... |
Peanut is fine...the first thing I did was check him for claw marks and stuff. He's just terrified!! They were having so much fun too!! |

I couldn't help but give a half-smile reading your story. It is scary, though! I can't believe your poor Peanut! Musta been like, "MOM!!! HELP!!!" I'm so glad you jacked that bird up. *still snickering* |
OMG. Thank heavens you were there! Your poor puppy. I remember someone here on YT lost her puppy to a hawk. It came right down and grabbed it and she could do nothing about it. She was only a few feet from it. That story remained in my mind for months. I cried daily for the owner and the picture she had in her mind for the rest of her life. I am so happy for you and your puppy. I am glad your story has a happy ending. |

I know how you feel I have a Bald Eagle and a Golden Eagle hanging around.. I have my dogs penned close to the house and don't let them run unless I'm their to keep an eye out... They will take them... Crows will too, tinny puppy's as will turkey vultures.... Paragon's sp?? as well... It's scary.. I had one of my dogs a few yrs back be picked up and carried over a mile from home... I got her back as she had long coat and must have slipped from it's grasp... I was so panicked as we didn't know what happened to her.. She just disappeared into thin air. I was up all night calling her and looking for her. The guy that found her said she ran across the road right in front of him and he slammed on the brakes got out of his truck and she flew into his arms. He left a phone number by one of our local stores he'd found her just 20 minutes or so after she'd disappeared over a mile away... When I got her back , if she saw a turkey vulture fly over, which we had numbers of them hanging around she would try to climb my leg... Even the following spring she was setting in the sun room and when the vultures came back in the spring, she saw her lst one and came barking and crying for me to pick her up.. I went and looked out the window and sure enough one was circling the house... She'd not for gotten.. I did much praying when she disappeared as we couldn't figure out what happened... She did have talon marks on one of her sides.. I feel it was a baby bald eagle that took her..   Needless to say I feel the same way you do.... |

I'm a HUGE bird lover, but I've had hawks try to grab some of my doves THRU the cage and actually divebombed them and injured one in the chest with his talons, so you can NEVER be too careful. Even if they don't actually pick them up and take them away, they can really injure them with those sharp claws and beak! Please be careful...I'm so glad that you were right there and had the broom! And if you DO kill it, don't tell anyone;) . |
