| PETA, a Slaughterhouse???? Virginia Asked to Classify PETA as a Slaughterhouse Thursday, January 17, 2008 The Center for Consumer Freedom, a non-profit trade group representing the interests of manufacturers and retailers, formally petitioned the Commonwealth of Virginia to reclassify PETA as a "slaughterhouse". An official report filed by PETA itself shows that the animal rights group put to death nearly every dog, cat, and other pet it took in for adoption in 2006. During that year, the well-known animal rights group managed to find adoptive homes for just 12 animals. The organization killed 2,981 of the 3,061 "companion animals" it took in. According to David Martosko, Research Director for CCF... "It is absurd to classify PETA as a 'humane society' when its employees are slaughtering nearly every companion animal they bring in. PETA has killed over 17,000 pets since 1998. Given the group's astonishing habit of killing adoptable dogs and cats with such ruthless efficiency, it's only fair that the state of Virginia refer to PETA as a slaughterhouse." CCF's petition was directed to Virginia's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. If approved, the new classification would force PETA to abide an entirely new set of laws and regulations. The Center of Consumer Freedom has set PETA in its sights because PETA has targeted the companies that CCF represents, such as food makers, department stores, and textile companies. PETA's most successful publicity campaigns have been those against the fur industry, arguing that killing animals for fur is akin to cruelty. Yet ironically, PETA itself is killing thousands perfectly healthy and adoptable animals for no better reason than just ideology. |

| Good post. PETA is a nasty organization and they believe none of us should own pets. We shouldn't interact with animals...

| I'm not a big PETA fan. I don't believe in their messages and I would guess most of their celebrities that support them don't realize what they are entirely about either. |

| I say bravo to Virginia! It is high time someone put PETA in their place! What were they thinking about killing all those animals? Did they think they were doing a favor to the animal..... to keep it away from people who actually like animals? |

| OMG is this true? I had no idea. I do remember they got in trouble for getting caught dumping a load of poor animals next to a trash can when they euthenized them...

| I used to give money to Peta before I discovered what they were all about. They are not for animal rights at all. If they had their way no one would be breeding or owning animals either. What they did to those poor animals is atrocious

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I HOPE this gets some national attention. PETA is the first to go to the media when they see a supposed injustice. That's how they raise all their millions and millions of dollars. And how do they use the donated money? Killing animals. Sick.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Great thread. I too wonder why so many people who say love animals, support PETA.

| It's so sad that PETA is what it is. PETA should stand for something so much more than the extreme things that they do. They do more harm to animals than they do help I believe. I have to admit, I appreciate the PETA e-mails I get occasionaly alerting me to companies who do animal testing, but when I heard about the hundreds of dogs they euthanize just b/c it's more "convenient"....omg I was disgusted. Someone needs to put PETA president down!

YT Addict | Yikes Peta is at it again! Hubby and I hate PETA. They are classified as a terrorist organization b/c of all the "protests" AKA blowing up buildings that they have been apart of using celbs $. I for one don't understand why the FBI who monitors PETA hasn't put a stop to celbs, donating $ to them. If you donate to the talliban you get arrested why not with PETA who is on the FBI watch dog list!!!!! GRRRR that makes me so mad!!!! BTW In the commonwealth of VA including VA Beach ,Portsmouth and Norfolk wich is where my parents; are most of those dogs that get put down by PETA were pits that were strays and fighting dogs. They should have sent them to a rehab facility. H_ll call Ceaser Millan who is famous for rehabiliting dogs who may end up getting put down! PETA really is a horrible organization! Didn't they want that baby polar bear to be put down b/c of survial of the fitest or some thing like that? |
