| yorkie appearance question We just got a 12 week old female yorkie, weighing in at 1.4 lbs. She was referred to us by the breeder as a short legged yorkie. we were just wondering what the difference of a short leg and a long legged yorkie was. and please tell us something more than just 1 has short legs and the other has long legs |

| Some yorkies just have shorter legs than others. My parents yorkie, Rylie, has shorter legs and a short, compact body. My Lacy has longer legs and a longer body. They are only like 1.5lbs different in weight but Rylie looks quite a bit smaller than Lacy.

| Hi and welcome to YT....we'd love to see pics of your new furbaby. And I'm not really one to help you with your questions but like the previous post, there's usually not talk about long-legged vs short-legged unless it's just used to describe one in detail...to me, at 12 weeks, they all appear to be "short-legged" you really can never tell but there is a standard in inches measuring from ground to back or something like that but again I don't remember what that is. You just have to see how she grows and enjoy the transformation. I'm sure she'll be beautiful however she ends up!

| I have a little 5 mo old girl, my son has her brother..My little girls legs are a little longer as is her body, her little brother is 1 lb smaller, and short legs and short body, he looks chunkier, but keeps one pound behind her all the time..My little girls aren't real long, but a lot longer than her brothers..I have an older yorkie that is huge, but, she has short legs, and I have a german yorkie with the longer legs.. |

| I heard that it is more desireable to have a short legged yorkie. The breeder that we bought our two first yorkies from bred for the short legged pups among good temperaments. We were told that the long legged yorkies were more likely to injure/break their legs with jumps/falls. I also have a long legged yorkie and I think he may have LP in his back leg.

So far as faces, you'll hear the term "baby doll" face a lot, although it's not supposed to be used by reputable breeders (not to say they never use it though). A lot of the time when people say "baby doll" face, they are talking about a shorter snout. The AKC standard says "Small and rather flat on top, the skull not too prominent or round, the muzzle not too long, with the bite neither undershot nor overshot and teeth sound. Either scissors bite or level bite is acceptable. " Of course that leaves it open to interpretation. Again, you want a proportionate dog..a yorkie should not have a smushed face of a shih tzu but it shouldn't be as long as a silky terrier either...a moderate muzzle. Here's a link to the AKC standard for the Yorkie http://www.akc.org/breeds/yorkshire_terrier/index.cfm A lot of it doesn't seem very specific, but I've heard there is an illistrated standard that you can get as well. YT member Mardelin mentioned it before and she could probably tell you where to find one.
