I think sometimes the reason for christmas is lost in the promotion of sell, sell, sell...
BTW...before I start I had nothing to do with this it was all my Husband.
We were at walmart the friday before christmas. I didn't even see or hear what was happening I was talking with the lady in line behind us about her grand daughter who was going to be a week old on that sunday.
My Husband on the other hand was watching the line in front of us because we weren't moving and hadn't been for quit a while.
There was a mentally challenged girl at the register she allot of things that she was trying to buy. Apparently she didn't have enough money. So she started having them take things off the bill. The woman behind her was with her a friend that had driven her, or something ( I found out later). But, she was a little over $7.00 short and her friend either didn't have the money or couldn't loan it to her. IDK...Anyway, My husband is watching the whole thing and he is getting madder and madder as he watches the girl running the register she kept getting more hateful with this mentally challenged girl. He finally turned to me and said "do you have any cash on you?" I handed him the 3 or 4 dollars I had in my purse and continued my conversation with the woman behind me.
He walked straight up to the register and asked the girl how much she was short, she told him it was $7.??. He didn't have enough cash so he told the cashier to add all of the things she had taken off of the bill back on and he ran our credit card. It turned out that he gave the girl over $50.00. Nothing that she had was junk it was laundry soap, dish soap,bath saop, etc., she had bought cheap wrapping paper and a $10.00 candle gift set she said for her Mother. He also added a candy bar and a bottle of chocolate milk...LOL
He did this without even consulting me. The woman I had been talking to said " Do you know her?" all I could say was "No"
I get very upset with my Hubby sometimes but, this was NOT one of those times. So I will not be able to go out to eat a couple times this month...That girl got to give her Mother a present from her and if she turns around and does something nice for some one else then it is well worth giving up Mc Donalds a few times. And seeing the smile on her face as she hugged my Husband was priceless.
Then as we left the store. My Husband said to me, " are you mad at me for doing that?" How on earth could I get mad at him for being Santa Claus??? All I could do was hug him.
Anyway, he made me promise that I would not tell any one that knows us that he had done this. He is afraid they will think he is weak. I think it makes him one of the rare, strong, best people in the world. But, that is one of the many reasons I married him. I guess I just want to say that I married the real Santa Claus.

Aww..what a sweet story! That was so nice of your husband. I'm sure that girl appreciated what he did so much!

It is stories like this that keep my faith in mankind!!!! Many kudos to your hubby for being such a sweet guy.

I have done things like this. It aways warms my heart to see others doing for the less fortunate.

I just finished reading your post. Needless to say I have tears rolling down my cheeks. It sounds like your Husband KNOWS the TRUE meaning of Christmas.... Who knows - that young woman may have been (probably was) an angel sent to earth to test human compassion. Your dear dear husband passed with flying colors :)

What a wonderful man your hubby is!! I have done a few things like this and can tell you it warms my heart to be able to do this for others. I know your hubby will be rewarded for his kindness. Karma has a way of paying good kind honest people back for their generosity. It brought tears to my eyes just reading your post TY! Your hubby is one of those reasons we have faith that there is still good people in the world.:thumbup:

I have a similar story I was at the grocery store yesterday and a lady and her child were in front of me and she did not have enough money to pay for her food, so she started taking food items off. I stopped her and asked the cashier how much she needed and it was like $8 so I just gave her the cash the smile on her daughters face was priceless the lady just kept thanking me. It feels SO good to do something nice for others =).. Just wanted to share my story.

And YES, your husband is a Santa its what the Holiday season is all about.. My mom always told me its better to give then receive :)

Oh that is sooo sweet to do , make sure you do a little extra for him for being so nice , what he did was so special and says a lot of what kind of person he really is. :)

I think he is the best...But, I am a little biased...lol
But, he was more mad at the cashier than any one she was so hateful to the girl...He said "what she couldn't see that the girl was struggling to even understand?" He wanted to smack the cashier. :eek: What kind of Santa would that make him??? LOL
I agree it always better to give than receive. It makes me feel so good to help any one.
It is always nice to see the good will stories. It is rare to be able to brag that your Husband did that...lol :D I am always proud of him just more so that night!!!:p

Okay, I'm crying like a baby, what a wonderful person your hubby is...and what a lousy person the cashier is, we all know who really shines here, may he be blessed in life time and time again.

OMG that is one of the best christmas stories ever, you do have a santa claus:) I helped a lady out at krogers one time, however it was only a few cents, but still it made me feel good;)

What a wonderful story!!! I cannot believe your hubby does not want anyone to know what he did!!!! Having a "heart" and compassion for others in need is a wonderful trait to have!!! This was so sweet of him...I only wish there were more people around like him!!!!!

It was wonderful that you helped that woman with the groceries. I don't think it matters what day of the year that people do the right and kind thing. It just matters that they do it. If each person tries do one nice thing for some one else everyday imagine what a place this world could be.
Please continue to help people even if it's not money. If it's just listening to them whine about the mean woman at walmart.

My thoughts exactly! I am sitting here in tears! I think sometimes we get in such a rush we forget that those around us are out brothers and sisters, too, and we should reach out to them more.

You are very blessed to have such a dear, dear husband. I too have done similar things...just little things like telling a stranger they look nice or letting someone in front of me in line...it does the heart good. Give your hubby a big hug....and you don't even have to tell him where it came from.:D

I have a mentally challenged sister, who lives in a group home, so I would love you to give him a great big hug from me. My sister tries to do most of her shopping herself and loves to make afghans for others and sometimes when she goes to get some yarn, she will sometimes have more yarn than her allowance. She has broken out in tears because she can't have the yarn. So I understand how hard it can be.

I know how hard it is when waiting in line and many people don't understand the real reason. There are angles in this world and your hubby is one of them.

This made me cry. What a great guy!!!

As I said this girl wasn't buy anything that wasn't useful. She wasn't splurging on crap for her self. The worst thing she got my Husband put on the belt.
He is not a braggert, he doesn't like to tell people about the good things he does he just does them. He feels like it tarnishes the act if you brag about it.
He is a real sucker for little kids and those who are challenged in anyway. And he is one of the first ones to come to their defense.
But, like I said we can not tell him I told any one. He would be very upset with me.

Let us all make it a New Years resolution to do a kind deed everyday...what goes around comes around...may it be a compliment, helping out someone in need or a listening heart or shoulder to cry on, whatever...just do it with kindness and expect nothing in return...it'll make your heart feel good, that warm, fuzzy feeling...it'll make us all better people in the long run.

Isn't it funny that men think these things make them look weak, when it really show true strength and character?

I am so much older then most here and believe me you will never regret doing a good thing...but I will forever regret not offering to buy a child a pair of shoes 40 yrs ago. I was in Woolsworth and a poor woman had a little boy with torn, worn out canvas sneakers in the middle of winter...I was only 20 or so and did not know how to approach the woman and ask to buy the child shoes...I have since learned the way to do it, is just ask...some people will turn your offer down, but that is okay too...it is always better to offer and not be needed, then to be needed and not offer...God bless your family...

That is really a beautiful, kind, thoughtful thing your husband did and it should make you very proud.
