| Feeling, stupid and foolish..HELP! Need to know if I am the only one that has felt this way. On Christmas day I had my Nina dressed in a pink sweater with a bow on. She looked so cute, I took a lot of pictures. We had different relatives come over to visit and exchange gifts. All of them comented on how silly it was to have her dressed and that I had pictures of her in frames and had pictures of her in my new camera. One relative even said that I reminded her of the "dog lady" commercial. I haven't seen it, but she said it was a lady with a new didgital camera who takes a lot of pictures of her dog and then frames them. One said Nina, couln't be cold, she didn't need clothes on. I live in Miami, FL, I know it's hot here but I had her shaved a month ago because of many tangles and I like to put little t-shirts and pj's on her. I defended myself that day but honestly I still foolish. I have three boys, NO GIRLS, and Nina is my little girl (duh, I know it is a dog) and I like dressing her. She also seems okay with the clothes on. Am I crazy to feel foolish? Has anyone else gone thru this and what did you do to get over it? |

| I don't dress my dogs but I don't ridicule those that do either. I probably have more pictures of my dogs than I do of my family and that's o.k. My family accepts my dogs and my Mom calls them her Grand dogs...if they're not in a family picture with us someone will always ask why. I think the people who make fun are either the ones who are jealous or they have never had or felt the unconditional love of a dog. I only wish I had more pictures of our first Yorkie...he's gone now and I cherish the ones I do have. You go girl...they're your babies, do what you want! |

| My Susanah attended ALL the Christmas festivities with us - and she did it dressed in her Christmas dress (red velvet with white fur trim) and matching bow in her hair. The only reason she wasn't wearing her black patent leather shoes with it was because I accidently left them at my grandmother's house in AL the last time we went to visit. So no, I don't think you are crazy at all. People opinions don't matter much to me anymore. A very wise person once said to me, "Opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one and some of them stink. There are always going to be that select few who stink worse than others."

| Do you REALLY care what they think? As long as you get joy out of doing it, it's none of their business. |

| No it's not foolish at all...I used to be one of those people who thought so, but now I can't get enough clothes for my little furbutts... I have 6 of them, and they are all more well-dressed than their mommy...lol. There's nothing wrong with it, and it does keep them warm. It has never bothered mine to wear clothes, not a bit. In fact, if I have one naked for a little while and I pull out some clothes, they run over, ready to get dressed! All it is is a fashion statement, just like you dressing your child in something. Your relatives wouldn't make fun of that, would they? Just ignore them...you'll always have people who have different views as you (at first my mom made jokes about my dog's clothes, then she saw how cute they were and started buying them for hers too). |

| If you & Nina are happy that is what matters!! My breeder gave Babsy a pearl collar for Christmas - she is wearing it and her burgundy bow & Gizmo is wearing his burgundy & green sweater to match at our New Years Eve party (Babsy will be four on New Years Day & my breeder who will be at the party is turning ## on New Years Eve so they are celebrating together) & if anyone doesn't like it too bad! Babsy doesn't like getting dressed up but I would do it if she would let me, Gizmo doesn't mind so he gets the new clothes & Babsy gets the bling bling collars & pretty bows. If it bothered Nina believe me she would let you know - it takes an act of congress to get clothes on Babsy You should do what makes you happy! Try not to let the thoughtless words of others hurt your feelings, I have three boys too & they know I love them & wouldn't trade them for anything but, Babsy is the little girl I will never have - some people truly don't realize these are our (fur)babies.

| Oh...I would just disregard what they say. Its your pup, so do as you wish. I take tons of pics and dress Meka up all the time... Its usually my husband making fun of me about the pics.. But, others comment on the clothes. Infact I got a little "riddicule" on Christmas Eve for the same thing. My SIL was making fun of Meka because she wouldnt play with their chiuahua & cats. So their comment was that "she's all dressed up & cute, but cant do anything else" and they kept calling the dress she had on, a "prom dress" I just laughed! and noted that they must be jealous because they had been talking about it most of the day... Personally, Ive wanted a Yorkie for well over 15 yrs.... So, Im gonna do whatever, whenever I want with my pup

| I wouldn't worry about it. Its not foolish at all. Riley has clothes on basically all the time. When we went to my boyfriend's family's xmas thing, they all looked at me weird, but I ignored it. I even packed Riley a different outfit for each day. Lol. Hes like my child. |

| The only opinion that matters is yours!!! Like you said, she is your baby girl. Until I got my first Yorkie, I never understood dressing your dog, but my entire world changed (in a wonderful way) along with my opnions. My girls are very well dressed and love it that way. I also have more photos of them than the rest of my family and at least as many as my adult skin kids. My girls are my babies and those who can't understand that just don't get much room in my life.

| I agree with everyone and you are right at home here. Whenever you see "member of the crazy club" in our signatures it is because we like to dress our dogs and it's in response to those who call us crazy. Don't feel foolish- join the crazy club!

| Frankly there is also a practical reason for dressing them. Our Yorkie girl has a puppy cut all the time, since I work fulltime and don't have time to groom her. Because she has short hair (and Yorkies don't have "fur" they only have hair) she does get cold even in the house. If you think about it, they are down on the floor all the time, and of course, cool air sinks to ground level, so temperature-wise it is cooler where they are in the house. Our little girl is truly a nervous wreck when she doesn't have some sort of t-shirt or sweater on. She runs obsessively back and forth to the window barking at nothing. But once she's dressed, she calms right down, and I think it's because without the extra covering, she's chilly most of the time and being chilly makes her run around more and startle more easily. Honestly I've noticed a big difference in her behavior in this regard. So explain to your family that Yorkies don't have "fur" coats like other dogs and need a little extra warmth, and since you are going to add extra warmth, you may as well do it in style. That's what I tell people who scoff at her sweaters and t-shirts. Last edited by Sweetums; 12-28-2007 at 09:51 AM. |
