| ![]() I just moved a little over a month ago from a duplex to an apartment... they do allow dogs for a $200 deposit and $20 extra each month per dog... however, two months before we moved, we adopted a 'mutt' from a rescue group that obviously was a rottie/german shepherd mix... my complex has a 'viscious breed' restriction which includes both of those breeds. I could keep my Yorkie/pom, but had to find a new home for my 15 week old rott mix. Thank goodness yorkies aren't a 'viscious breed'... though I swear sometimes Poochie thinks she is when she's out on our balcony 'protecting' our home. ![]() |

| ![]() Which do you love more, the Apartment or Pixie? I would say you made a very bad decision, by not checking into the lease agreement. Keeping your baby from barking, is like you not saying another word to anybody.

| ![]() I started the new forum to get an advice because I am in similar situation. I don't have a yorkie yet but I have been desperate about a yorkie for while now. Anyway... responses here are more positive ... I have been hearing a lot of "no yorkie just yet and move".... I am actually getting depressed about not being able to have a dog... feeling so tired, thinking about a yorkie all day.. .. oh well.. but this thread is very good. |

| ![]() Ya know? Sometimes I'm just really glad I live in good ole South Central Kentucky where there is plenty of green grass to let all the fur kids I want to have run in my 1800 sq ft house that I pay $620 per month to own. I have 6 dogs currently, not to mention the 2 cats and 50 some chinchillas. I'm glad I don't have all those people telling me what I can and cannot have living with me in and outside of my house. Sheesh.

| ![]() I am an expert on this subject!! I lived in an apartment that wouldn't take pets so I told everyone it was my moms and when people would see me take him outside to go potty I would say "Yeah I have to watch him again" HA HA... It worked!! A girl I know also has a apartment that wouldn't take pets and she got a note from the doctor saying she has to have the dog?? Not really sure why but it worked they let her keep the dog.... GOOD LUCK!!! Keep us updated |

| ![]() i lived in an apartment that didnt allow pets but i wanted a yorkie real bad. after not being able to reason with the onsite manager we decided to move. now we rent a house that allows pets. we pay a whopping 1,600 a month in rent ouch !!!! but its worth it everytime i hold my sweet boy. besides its california rent it high anyway especially if you want to live in a decent neighborhood.

| ![]() Check your state/city laws and your lease CAREFULLY...breaking leases can be very expensive and if your evicted its even more costly. I am an Apt. Manager in OK and I ALWAYS find out about illegal pets. It isn't hard, a neighbor complains about stepping in poo, the monthly pest guy does an inspection sheet that notes pets, poor housekeeping, etc. A neighbor brags about how cute your baby is, Maintenance comes in, the sources are endless and I don't have to even try. The key is whether or not a manager cares about their property and residents. We allow pets for a $200 Non-Refundable Fee (which can be paid out) so I believe that if your willing to get and take care of a pet this is part of it. When you break that down over the course of a lease its nothing...alittle over $16/mo on a 12mo lease....just consider it "rent" I guess. I will even allow over the weight or "Viscious breed" pets if the owners can show that they aren't aggressive and are well behaved. We also have treats in the office and know most of our furchildren by name, but then again I am an animal lover. Also consider the safety issues involved. Living in an apartment is living with lots of strangers...lets say a fire starts in the building, here the police dept has #s for all apt managers and we are called. If the fire dept is evacuating the building they will want to know how many people live in each apt and if there are pets....if they don't know about your baby they wont know to look for them. I know this is far fetched and don't mean to scare you but it is an example of "worst case" consequences. There is so much more involved than just money or "getting one over" on your landlord and its not fair for either of you to have to walk on eggshells in your own home. Get a copy of EVERYTHING you signed and read it so you will know what your up against. If you need any further info feel free to PM me, the laws are different state to state but I can help you understand the terminology involved in your lease. ![]() ![]()

| ![]() i went ahead and forked over the $500 pet deposit for my apartment (and believe me that was a huge dent in my pocket, hello poor college student here! haha) ...but after reading all of these replies im starting to think i could have gotten away without having paid it ...damnit LOL but whats done is done. i guess i can say i feel more at ease about not having to worry about hiding him, keeping him quiet and such, especially since i've had maintainence come over a couple of times. i just figure it would be a lot of trouble to go through. unfortunately i seriously doubt im going to get back the part of the deposit that is refundable ...Crunchy sure did make a mess of the carpet!

| ![]() hey now not all apts in ok are cheap!!! i pay 600 a month for a 600 square feet apt. My apts do allow pets but there is a $300 non refundable fee per dog! So i did pay the $300 for bentley ..but i'm hiding karlee!! I really just dont want to pay another $300 i'm not going to get back!! the way i see it is... they apts already know we have a pet. so if our neighbors hear barking it would be legit!! And i usually take them out one at a time to go to the bathroom!
