| Welcome to YorkieTalk You will need a crate/cage if you want to crate train. It should be a very small one since usually the rule is they should be able to lay down and turn around and that's it. You can use pee pads if you want. Do you plan on training the puppy to go outside or use pads? If you want it to eventually go outside the pee pads could slow down the process. On the other hand, it is cold out now and the pup probably doesn't have all of its shots, so it might be better to keep it inside. I think crate training is generally used to train them to go outside. What is your puppy's name?

| Welcome to yt. I trained Murfee from the start to go outside....never used peepads. He did great. I also never crated him. He has basically had free rein of the house since he was 8 weeks old when we got him. I learned early on the watch for his signs. He had acciedents but not that many. Good luck

| Murfee has slept with us since the first time I brought him home. He is an exceptional dog and never once peed on the bed. I was fortunate enough that I don't work outside the home so he was never left alone. I watched him all the time 'cause he followed me everywhere and if I saw his "sign" that he was getting ready to pee or poop would take him outside and praise and praise him. If he had an accident, I would tell him NO and take him outside. We took him camping with us in our camper when he was about 2 months old and he has NEVER had an accident in the camper. I know lots of people crate and have good luck with it,but I am one of those crazy old ladies who think it looks like prison when they give me the sad look. Good luck
