| ![]() Forgive me, but I haven't read all the posts in this thread because there are a lot, so I might be a little late on what I'm posting. The way you seem to be describing her, she seems to be on the extreme side, but just for curiosity sake, have you ever owned a dog before or been around a lot of puppies? The reason I'm asking is because if you haven't, then maybe her behavior might seem extreme. I also think everyone wants a yorkie because they appear to be "lap dogs" and to tell you the truth, they really aren't. They are boundless forms of energy that just never stop... kind of like the energizer bunny! When we first brought Chip home, we never thought he'd calm down. He was bing binging all over the place. He couldn't sit still for more than a second! He's now almost a year old and has calmed down some and will actually sleep outside of his crate. He started to calm down around the beginning of October, so he was about a 9-10 months old. Has your little one been spayed yet? Chip calmed down a little more when he was neutered in September. Sometimes that can play a part in it. Have you tried taking her to obedience classes at all? Try taking her to puppy classes. A lot of the trainers will have helpful hints and will work with you on specific areas that you need help with your dog. Chip needed a lot of work with human socialization and aggressiveness. In the 6 weeks of classes, I've definitely seen improvement, but we do have a ways to go. As for potty training, join the club! I also have a rescue that we are working on the potty training issue. It's really difficult, but with a lot of consistency, hard work, and lots of treats, she'll get it! When she poops, try picking it up and putting in on the pad rather than just cleaning it up. Make her smell it, then praise her. If she pees in the wrong spot, soak up the pee with the pee pad and do the same thing with the poop. As soon as you let her out of her crate, make her stay on her pee pad until she potties. When she goes give her treats and over praise her... practically throw a party! Also, I know mentioned about her shredding the pads. Do you have it just laying on the floor? I believe there are products out there that will hold the pads down securely. I never had to use one, cause thankfully Chip got out of the "grab and go" phase really quick. Also, does she spend a lot of time out of her crate, or is she locked up most of the time. She might not be getting enough exercise and that's why she seems so hyper. Try taking her on long walks everyday and spend lots of time playing with her. If you work long days, try to take her to a doggie day care or something, or maybe consider a mid day dog walker. She might just have a lot of pent up energy.
