Biting? Need Help! - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Hello all,
I've noticed the Bear likes to bite alot. I've been trying to break him from this. I know that he's just a puppy (3 months old) and that they do that, but sometimes IT HURTS! But my problem is concerning him biting my 4 year old daughter. She loves to play with him, but sometimes he just gets too rough and bites her. Well tonight it got totally out of hand and he jumped up in her face and got her on the eye lid. It put a small gash on it. I'm so upset! She cried forever...I know it hurt! My husband will be furious when he finds out..and will problably tell me to get rid of the dog!

I cannot imagine not having Bear around! If any one has any ideas on how to get the biting to stop..please let me know!

I wish I could help! Bunny bites me like thay when she's playing almost once a day. Yesterday it was my nose and today she gave a fat lip and I can only imagine how a 4 year old felt bc my 30ish y/o self was in pain!!! They just get sooo excited. Sorry I can't help! Will hubby understand that its just how they play! Will he still be mad if he knows that it wasnt anything that would be considered "agrressive" behavior?

I am sure there are others. You can put a stop to this - and do it quickly.

I will try some of these methods that were posted in the other thread...I'm willing to try anything to get the biting to stop. I have tried tapping him on the nose when he starts biting, but that seems to make him worse..he will then start growling and snapping!

I know you can do it. Sometimes it just takes a (hopefully) little incident like this to motivate us to do something. Soon you and your little girl will have a fun playful (bite-less) puppy!

Thanks for your reply..I hope hubby will understand..it's just that he really doesn't like a dog that bites..I tell him all the time that it's just play, but he doesn't seem to understand...Emily (My daughter) is fine now..she still has a red eyelid...but she's ok..I'm going to have to monitor their playing together a little more closely until I get this resolved..

I have a 6 year old boy and Chewy is constantly nipping at his legs. I think he really hurts him sometimes - I can always hear him running through the house yelling "Mommy Chewy's biting me!!!". I think they really just want to play because my son will roll around on the floor and they are fine. When we first got him though he would bite at my son on the floor. I am going to look through that other thread for more advice but I usually just pick Chewy up and sternly say "NO BITE" i don't think it works much though

. I hope your little girl feels better and that your hubby isn't too angry because I really think it is something they will outgrow. I'm not too worried about the situation here if it makes you feel any better. Good Luck.

u can try bitter apple or bitter end. works for some, but not Rex, he liked the stuff, but time was the key for Rex and at 6 months he quit biting...finally! although i have a 4 yr old sister and he never bit her. sorry i cant ofer more. Rex also did the $100 8 wk petsmart training program and that helped ALOT

I had the same problem with Teddy in the beginning and it
was almost like he chose me to be his victim. He would bite
me to the point that I looked I just had gone 10 rounds in
a boxing ring. I am happy to report though with time and
constantly telling him "NO BITE" that it finally did sink it.
I have also taught him the meaning of of the word off and
that seemed to help almost immediately. He is the biggest
snuggle bug around now so better days will come just be
patient and your husband just needs to understand that
you yorkie baby is no different than a human baby he needs
to be taught and to learn how to be a good family member.

Maggie was getting really bad too. We are not young anymore, so our skin tears a lot easier than younger people. We stopped Maggie from biting, by thumping her on the nose and saying "No Bite". She is now 4 months old and no longer has to be thumped. Now a simple "No Bite" works.

Gracie did that when she was a baby too - she grew out of it. She never intentionally bit, just mouthed us - but those little teeth are sharp. Sampson, our maltese, is 5 months old and is still nipping us. Hopefully he will grow out of that habit too. Again, he never intentionally bites, just sort of mouths us. If either of them really wanted to bite, it would HURT! They bite when they are babies, just be careful...

Well, I don't know. I suppose, knowing kids, that the rougher the pup gets, the more revved up the child gets and before too long someone gets hurt. Puppies are puppies and kids are kids!

I have never allowed anyone (husband included) to play rough with my pups. Some people think it is cute...well, it is not cute when they get older. I say "no biting" and quit playing when they bite. They get the message.

I never have had a biter.
