Thanks for the picture. I never saw one before, but that one was really cute. |
in response to yorkiemomiee's post (#11): I've seen a pomeranian/yorkie that was super cute too, dunno what they are named though...Porkies? They are really cute though. (Not condoning intentionally mixing breeds) Because sometimes uneducated buyers get a puppy based on his puppy cuteness and when the puppy grows out of it into a mixed dog, alot of them end up in kennels and shelters. __________________ ~Kiko my little ray of sunshine~ ...........................Denise Kiko............................. OMG!! I never realized that I have a... PORKIE!!! I've never thought about combining the two breed names... LOL Poochie the Porkie... hehehe |
Aren't morkies and yortese different? I mean, I realize that the parents are maltese and a yorkie, but don't they look quite different? From what I've seen, morkies (mother is a maltese) have more of the maltese traits and yorktese (mother is a yorkie) have more yorkie traits. Am I wrong on this? |
I don't know - but it certainly held true in our case. Stormy's mom was a maltese & she definitely looks more maltese than yorkie. There was another breeder near us who had pups from a female yorkie & a maltese dad & they looked very "yorkie" in their markings. So that might be true. I did, however, see a new litter of pups where two siblings had the yorkie markings and a third pup was completely blonde. |

I think some of them are cute and some aren't to be honest. Stormy is a cutie and that little golden colored one in the middle in the basket is the cutest dog I've ever seen. |
I don't see a problem with mixing the breeds, after all that is really how we got so many different breeds today. I would love to have a little black dog just like Stormy. There really aren't any small breeds that come in all black and none that I'm a big fan of. A friend of mine got a maltese around the time that I got Reagan and I just thought to myself I really wouldn't want a dog with a white coat, too much to keep clean. But if it could be a black maltese I would get one in a heartbeat. Really though if I could have an all white yorkie I'd take that in a heartbeat too, even though it would be hard to keep clean. I think the biggest problem, and to many it isn't as much a problem as is a surprise but you really don't know how they are going to look when they grow up. When I first started writing this I thought that I wouldn't want a mixed breed for this reason but if you think about it by the time they grow up you are already attatched and you think they are the most beautiful of all dogs no matter how they look. |

My pup is a Morkie :animal36 |
My Tia is a Morkie. I got her when she was just a little under a year old. Someone bought her then put her in our local newspaper when they decided they didn't want her anymore. One of the things I do not like about purposely mix breeding is that someone sees a a specific mix, falls in love and then assumes that if they buy that same mix it will look the same as the dog they fell in love with. That does not happen. Because it's a mix no one knows what that puppy will look like as an adult. I've seen many buy a mix and then when it grows up it's not what they expected and it ends up in rescue or shelter. I really urge anyone that loves the mix of the Yorkie and Maltest to PLEASE not buy but rather adopt. There are so many beautiful little mixes or designer breeds as they call them in rescue. The best part is when you adopt the adoption fee you pay also includes the spay or neuter, the shots and any vetting the pup needed prior. Also consider adopting an older dog or young adult there is an upside to that in that you will know exactly what your dog will look like as an adult and how big he or she will be as the growing is done:) Elaine |
