| Like, how long is that sentence?????LOL I would only buy an AKC registered puppy. But, a Yorkie puppy is not something to rush into!! I would contact reputable breeders in your area and go and see some Yorkies. Most breeders will not sell "Christmas puppies". Do not buy unless you have a written health guarantee and dont buy from a pet store. Go to YTCA.com and look for breeders in your area. Or go to infodog.com and find a kennel club in your area. They might be able to help you in your search. Hope this helps!! |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | welcome to YT! IKC is a pet store and not a very good place to get a puppy from. A lot of the puppies are sick with kennel cough and possibly pneumonia. If you are serious about getting a yorkie please look into getting one from a reputable breeder or rescue. There are some great breeders here on YT that are in the area and others that aren't in the area but will ship. check here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=39 and here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=8 and here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=53 be patient. Do your home work and don't jump on an opportunity just so you'll have him by christmas.

| Welcome to YT. You'll get great advice here. As far as getting a puppy for Christmas, you are right. It's usually a terrible idea- but not always. We gave my daughter her yorkie for Christmas 2 yrs ago. She was only 11 (13 now) but she has always been incredibly mature and responsible. Our Christmases, like yours, are very quiet and low key. To me, it was a great time for her to get a puppy because it was Christmas break and she had time to work with training (and deal with the middle of the night crying ) and also have time to bond with him. She has been a great yorkie mommy. So, yes, it can totally work. The very most important thing you can do is make sure you have a great breeder. You want a healthy puppy who will grow up to look like a yorkie. Yorkies are very overbred right now and there have been many sick yorkies and people who were unhappy with how their yorkie grew up looking. Please, please don't go to a petstore. You will most likely end up with a very poor example of the breed and possibly health issues. You will also be supporting puppy mills which I'm sure you don't want to do. Good luck with your search!

| Welcome to YT. You really need to research breeders before you pick a pup. We're always willing to check out breeders if you can get there website. It might be good in your case to get a pup at Christmas, because you'll be on vacation, and have more time to bond.
