Welcome to YT. You'll get great advice here. As far as getting a puppy for Christmas, you are right. It's usually a terrible idea- but not always. We gave my daughter her yorkie for Christmas 2 yrs ago. She was only 11 (13 now) but she has always been incredibly mature and responsible. Our Christmases, like yours, are very quiet and low key. To me, it was a great time for her to get a puppy because it was Christmas break and she had time to work with training (and deal with the middle of the night crying ) and also have time to bond with him. She has been a great yorkie mommy.

So, yes, it can totally work. The very most important thing you can do is make sure you have a great breeder. You want a healthy puppy who will grow up to look like a yorkie. Yorkies are very overbred right now and there have been many sick yorkies and people who were unhappy with how their yorkie grew up looking. Please, please don't go to a petstore. You will most likely end up with a very poor example of the breed and possibly health issues. You will also be supporting puppy mills which I'm sure you don't want to do.

Good luck with your search!
