Maybe a Silly Question

This may be a silly question, but I am a third grade teacher and have two little bundles of joy! Yesterday at school we sent two students home with LICE!!!! UGG~ Anyway I had heard that yorkies have "human like" hair. I was wondering if they can get lice?? I had my head checked and I am clean but you never know with 9 year olds, who may be next??? I would feel so terrible if my babies got it??

Not a silly question. I would like to know the answer also. I never thought about it but my friends kids who are always around have that scare in their schools too.

i'm sure they can get it, tho i've never seen a dog with lice.

I never thought of that......I run the office of an elementary school and have the fun job (not ) of having to check these lil ones for head lice...although I am extremely careful with washing my hands/scrubbing underneath my nails afterwards I feel you can never be too careful. So this is very good information to know....Thank you for asking this ?????

hmmmm My dogs have Fine hair... it makes me wonder
when I read this in the
statement.
" Human head lice can only live a very short time off a head, and will not cling to the coarser hairs on a dog's pelt"

I do hair and If you want to keep head lice away from you .. a dab ofTea tree oil in your shampoo does wonders.

I do hair and If you want to keep head lice away from you .. a dab ofTea tree oil in your shampoo does wonders.

even though yorkies have a hair texture very similar to humans, their hair isn't exactly the same as ours. I know that experts can identify hairs of different species based on proteins and looking at it under the microscope.

I have read in dog books that dogs get a different kind of lice then what humans can get they are closely related and look very much a like. They have Flee, tick and lice shampoo out in the stores so I would suppose that they can get the dog lice.
