| Sit! Stay! Fetch! What can your dogs do? WHat have ya'll taught your little yorkies to do and how long did it take to teach them? I realized today that I havent spent much time training my little ones so I need some encouragement. The only commands my dogs know is "potty outside" "give momma kisses" and the older ones know "sit" and occasionally "lay down". I want to teach them other tricks or commands. So what can your babies do? I would love to see pics.....

| My girls don't take that long to teach.Baby is very skittish so it's harder to teach him how to do tricks. But he was the easiest to potty train. Each one is different. Lady:sit (5min)lay down (15mins)shake (5mins)play dead(30mins)fetch(30min)give kissy Lady is easier to train cuz she is such a porker. She'll do anything for treats,so it doesn't take her that long to figure stuff out. She's very smart. Lexus:sit(10)lay down(10)shake(15) give kissy, she's not as eager as Lady Baby-sit(20)saw Lady do it,so he just copied her.Sam with lay down That's all we taught them for now.Trying to think of something new to teach them.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Chanel can REALLY smile when asked - She just gave me the BIGGEST all time smile yesterday while she was laying on my chest - I said "Let me see a Smiley" and she pulled that top lip back and I saw EVERY tooth on the top row - It's my favorite all time thing that she does...she learned 1 year ago - and it took about 4 days to teach her this trick |

| They are very good at looking cute when they are in trouble, stringing tp all over the apartment, barking at squirrels and chipmunks, cleaning the floor of crumbs........ok I'll be serious although all of the above are very true! They can both sit, roll-over, stay (Simon not so good yet), come, all the basic training but we work on it constantly. Simon I always joke has attention deficit disorder so training him is always a work in progress. Hallie is so calm she usually picks up on training quickly. Oh and I taught them to put their tpys in the toybox. That took about a week and me crawling on the floor with toys in my mouth! |

| Sophie knows how to sit. It took probably 10-20 minutes. I also just realized she understands the word "outside." Her ears really perk up when we say that. I thought it would be too confusing to teach her several things....after reading these posts, I guess not. It is so cool that your puppies can learn all of this stuff. I better get to trainin'. She is 3 1/2 months old. How old are your puppies? |

| Riley Sit: Less than a day Down: A few days Jump Up/Beg: We are still working on teaching him that Outside: He is litter box trained so he knows that outside means a walk or a romping around in the front yard! TJ Sit: A few minutes Down: A day or two Jump Up/Beg: A day Come: We didn't teach him this, he just comes when called! Riley is a little stubborn, so he deosn't know very many tricks, and he isn't very good with the ones he does know. TJ is very open to learning and is very motivated by treats. When I take out a treat, he does every trick that I taught him until he gets that treat. I take out a treat and he runs over to me and sits, lays down, sits, jumps up, etc. LOL I plan to teach TJ lots of tricks and hopefully teach Riley a few more. |

| Garett is losing this one, Benni at the top of the class I have two yorkies, Benni and Garett. Benni learns everything, Garett just a few. They both know: sit, stay, come, outside, ice cream, candy, treats, walk, bye-bye, laydown and night night and want some jerky Benni knows all of the above and: Shake Laydown High sign (this is up and two pawed high sign) Rollover Crawl Dance Bang Bang you are dead (I point my finger like a gun and say bang bang and he crumples over) We are in the process of learning "pat-a-cake" and we just started working with jumping through hoops this past week, Benni will do anything for anybody for food! Benni learns most tricks quickly I would say less than a day, although pat-a-cake is taking a bit longer, Garett chooses which ones he wants to learn and is not as quick or as anxious to please as Benni. Yorkies are so smart. |

| I taught Missy and Max how to sit, stand and spin all in one day. Its amazing how fast a yorkie will learn a new trick with a treat as the reward I plan to teach them other things, just havent got around to it yet. I loved reading all your replies, you've given me some ideas

| The book I always bring up, Your Yorkshire Terrier's Life, tells you what basic commands your yorkie should be able to do and how to teach them. It took me about 1/2 day to teach Chloe, who was about 3 months at the time. Those are sit, down, stay, come, Walk on the leash and heel. She will also fetch her ball. I tried to train Lacey the same way and she mastered fetch, the rest of the time she just wants to be cute, so I let her. It is just too easy to catch her, or carry her, she's so small. I confess I would love to teach mine how to smile, that is so cute. |

| TInkerbell begs to learn new stuff, and usually learns anything with two treats. She can high five, sit, down, come, potty, dance, sit pretty, roll over, fetch, jump up, where's your ball?, and lots of other little stuff. She learned quite a bit of this stuff before she was even 10 weeks old. She was doing sit and down the first week she was home at 8 weeks. I was absolutely amazed at how smart these little guys are. I hope to teach her bang, bang, your're dead soon. |

| Geez, compared to everyone else.. Fred doesn't know anything! lol He knows to SIT! (took him a day) and to SHAKE LEFTY (another day) and to SHAKE RIGHTY (another day). I haven't tried anything else. The little booger is too hyper to sit still to learn anything! |

| Reagan knows: sit, down, shake, stay (for the most part but not completely), speak, hush, and bow. We're pretty mush stuck now though, I've tried teaching her roll over and play dead but she absolutely hates them both. So now I've started renaming the tricks she knows to yoga commands like bow is now down dog then she goes down to chataranga. But the picking up their toys is a good one, we may have to try that.

| Mya is kinda going through a terrible twos stage at 4 months. She is a little wild thing on leash and I am constantly correcting her. She goes nuts when she sees kids, she loves kids and when she fetches lately she will drop the ball or toy about one foot away...hahaha She will come when called and to the spot I point to. Sit, we are still working on stay. UP means I want to pick her up so she goes in to a spread stance. She knows her toys. She knows the meaning of Where is , she will look for a family member or whatever you ask her. Such as where is your bone? She knows get in, as in get in your bag, she will hop in. Get out. Bedtime, Bathtime, Walk, Car Ride, Shopping, No, Wait, Nice. Nice meaning to settle down. She knows what kisses and hugs mean, Drop it, Leave it, Dinner, Water. She knows about 20 words. I am hoping she will get as smart as the female pom that I fostered that knew 80 words.
