I hoestly don't know but i don't think there is a law here, guess it just depends on your building, or if you own a house it's up to you. |
I found this site for Toronto, Canada. You can have 3 dogs or 6 cats. http://www.doglegislationcouncilcana...endations.html |
Diggy4, you have to register with the state? I thought is was just the county for rabies. I don't know if we have a limit law here but it is not enforced if we do. I also think laws for that are absolutely ridiculous and stupid. If a person has one dog they could treat it horribly and someone could have 10 and treat them like royalty, so those laws make no sense. |
Here you can have as many as you want as long as they are taken care of.. I'll have 3 in February.. |

Gosh, I know there's a law here, but I'm not too concerned about it. As long as the animals are well cared for, no one is going to take them away and add to the large number of pets without homes. By the way, I'm sure my family is breaking the law, we have 5 dogs, 11 cats (+ 2 foster kittens) and foster dogs coming through all the time. Not to mention our creepy crawlies (snakes, lizards, turtles), birds, and rodents. |
none here that i know of |

What I think is nuts is that someone can own dogs and take terrible care of them...tie them to a tree for their whole life but I take care of my dogs..probably better than I take of myself lol..and have to abide by laws that dont really care about that dog tied to a tree its whole life...dumb dumb dumb lol.. Exactly why it would be ridiculous to take away babies from loving homes when there's already so many that aren't cared for, or homeless. |
wow - I had no idea that there were laws like that.....doesnt really make sense to me - as long as you can care for and love them |
I had no idea what our city regulations were...We moved here from the country and had no limit there obviously....I just looked up our city code- We are allowed to have up to 6 dogs &/or cats total. Any more than that, you have to get a permit. However, the permit looks easy to get from what I read???? I thought this was interesting.....Thanks for starting this thread... Joyce |
In the city I live in they limit the animals - Ordinance allows a total of six cats and dogs, not more than three of which may be dogs, per household. This just changed a couple years ago, because I think they used to say only 3 dogs and 3 cats. I'm not breaking any oridances - although I'd like to :D - I'd have a houseful if I had more time and money. The one thing that is really odd, but i'm not telling the city - I adopted my 2 yorkies when they were a 1 1/2 - about the same exact time of yr licenses have to be paid by. I adopted them from someone who lived in a suburb that does not require licenses so I was thrilled I got off without paying a license fee because the city didn't know I had them. But I figured the next year, they will get the vet report and know the yorkies are here & I'll get billed just like i do for the cats. Well, never once have I received anything from the city to pay for a license for the yorkies. I said something at my vet office the last time I was there, they didn't have an explanation and said they have sent my info in just like everyone else. So it's money saved ;) |
In my city, the law is no more than 4 dogs/cats/ferrets/potbellied pigs combined per household(LOL..potbellied pigs:confused: ) But the animal control laws are being rewritten right now so it may change soon (hopefully to allow more animals than 4). I don't think it's fair for a city/county to put a limit on a number of animals you can have as long as they are being cared for properly. It's like putting a limit on the number of kids people can have. How many animals a person has should be their own choice. I personally don't give a crap what the city says..I'll have as many pets as I want and luckily they aren't strict about enforcing their law. Right now I have two cats and a dog and my roommate has a cat (and I've been taking care of my parents yorkie for 6 weeks). But I know people that live in city limits and have way more than 4 pets combined LOL...they haven't had any problems with the city so far |
I think in the city limits the limit is 3 dogs. If you have more and breed one litter, you need to get a kennel license. I live in the county because I have horses and goats, so I think any amount is ok. But, we have sheriff Joe Arpiao, I know I just mispelled his name, Who loves dogs and has an animal cruelty unit that is very effective in busting puppy mills and anyone that is being cruel to other animals as well. They get a good 300 plus calls per month reguarding this. He is also great in busting illegal aliens, coyotes, and other human scum bags. |
