What can I do?
 

When I got Baby, the previous owner was going through a divorce. She told me she would bring me all her paper work and vet records. Baby is AKC, and Rocky is Registered with Pet Registry. I have emailed her about Baby's info and came up empty handed.

Now I'm not going to be able to register this litter without Baby's akc papers. I called AKC today and they told me the previous owner has to be the one to request for the lost papers, but how can I get her to do that when she won't even return my emails. I'm not sure what her phone # is.

As far as getting the papers from the previous owner....do you know where she lives? Can you pay her a visit? Did you have a good relationship with her when you got Baby? Otherwise, I don't know how else to help.:( Sorry.

where is she located in Indiana?

Not sure how to track her down, but unless you can register them with Pet Registry, I wouldn't sweat it too much. You can't reg the pups with AKC unless BOTH dam and sire are AKC reg. I'm sure you already know that, probably 5 times over, but just in case you haven't....:p

She has since been married, so not sure what her last name is now.

I called Pet Registry and they told me that if I can get Baby's papers then they can dual register Baby, that means the litter can be reg w/ pet registry. I know nothing about pet registry??? Is AKC better?? I would think since Rocky is reg w/ Pet reg then AKC would dual reg him also ???

AKC will not register any dog unless you have registration papers with both of its parents being AKC.

IF you can't get her AKC papers, and from what I've read on here that can sometimes be a problem, and the daddy isn't AKC, you can always register them CKC, they have a special form to fill out where witnesses have to attest to the breed.

I did find out who Baby's breeder is. I called a couple vet offices around here explaining the problem and they found Baby's records. But the phone # they have for the breeder is no longer in service.

Of course, if anyone went this route, they'd be contributing to the problem so many complain about and that so manny unethical breeders practice....why encourage it and add to the problem?:rolleyes:

IMO, if you don't have the papers proving that the dog was ever reg w/ AKC...what is the point of having them reg with another registry...?

In my opinion, this litter is going to only be pet quality. To me papers arent really important. If you are a show breeder or planning on showing the dog, then I believe papers are important.
Unfortunaly you get more money if the litter is AKC, I don't feel this is right.
I know that Baby and Rocky are both pure bred yorkies, so does it matter if I reg this litter?

Pet quality...doesn't matter at all. I can understand people wanting them registered to "prove" that they are purebred...but if you don't have Baby's papers as proof...doesn't matter.
Missy, I don't think you will have a problem finding these little ones homes so I wouldn't worry about it. When ARE those little buggers going to get here anyway?

your guess is as good as mine! I really thought she may go yesterday, her temp was real low and she didnt want to eat. But towards the evening temp went back up and she was active.

This morning her temp was 99 even, she ate. Now she is resting.

Well, I'm going out of town tomorrow, soooo....if you could tell her to hurry up and get this thing done today, I'd appreciate it.:D

Did you get that breeder's name from the vet? You could do a record search at the county to see if you can find her...

also, try googling her (non working) email address. If it comes up at all, it can help you find her.

I remember when you got Baby. It was more of a "rescue her from a horrible situation" type of deal". The owner wasn't taking very good care of her, right? I didn't think you paid a lot for her(was it $500?) I don't remember all the details, just that you had wanted to give her a good home. I honestly(and don't want to be harsh sounding) don't think the original owner owes you the papers and shouldn't expect to give them to you so you can make money off of the dog. You're a really good person, I know this. It just rubs me the wrong way how you got Baby, then a male, then they 'accidentally' tied...twice. Now your complaining about trying to get AKC papers and that you know people will pay more for AKC dogs.

If it was any other poster, I'd be appalled.., but I know for a fact, that you are a good person and love yorkies and truly wanted good homes for both Baby and your male. If you paid and were promised the papers, yes you should get them. If I was the previous owner, I wouldn't be happy that you had her bred and now want the papers to sell a litter.

I do know there are other registries you can go with, not as good as AKC but to some people, like me, it doesn't matter that much.

I think CKC might be the route to go. A lot of people prefer any type of papers to none.

Why would you do that....the papers would mean nothing. This is the very thing that CKC is criticized for--'registered' dogs where you have no proof that it's purebred or of the lineage. Why encourage people to add to the problem? Why not just get out some crayons and draw a certificate and pedigree instead? It would be of the same value...maybe more depending on how many colors you used. :P

By registering your dog with any registry you have access to or can start a family tree for your dog, be eligible for all kinds of perks including pet finder services, etc. Granted, AKC is stricter on breed purity and breeding regulations but that doesn't guarantee that your AKC dog is pure, every registry has unethical breeders.

The same 'perks' can be achieved w/out a registry. I agree with you...every registry has unethical breeders. (I've tried to make that point so many times that I'm blue in the face!) My point is...why be one of them. Half of them are unethical because they registered a dog as a 'purebred' without any proof. Why be like that. If you don't have the papers saying the dog is all Yorkie, you don't have them. That's the breaks. You don't 'fix' the problem by reg them with another registry that doesn't care, you just add to the problem.

Why would I prefer CKC to no papers?

If you pay alot then some sort of paperwork should be included even if it's just used as a birth certificate for you. To me, that includes any other registry like CKC. Everyone knows AKC is the best, that goes without saying.

It's just a choice I think a lot of people feel that any papers are better than none. If you saw two dogs, priced the same and one came with papers and they were both equally cute, I think the majority would go for the papers. If only to prove ownership.

If you know where she lives I'd give her a visit. If not I don't know what can you do.

You are right...all registries have been compromised through this...just don't see why it should be encouraged to continue to contribute to the problem. THIS is WHY they have been tainted. THIS is WHY ethical CKC breeders are having to constantly defend their dogs and their breeding programs. The whole point of reg papers is to prove the dog's line and it's purebred status...this defeats the purpose. Like I said, if someone wants a 'birth certificate,' break open the crayons. To prove ownership...get the dog microchipped.

I'm not saying that I would make more money, I'm saying people in general pay more money for a AKC pet. I could care less really if they are reg, but someone might. Like someone else said, it's a way to get the family history.

Not only am I wanting her AKC papers, I want her vet records. I was promised all this. I took Baby into my home because I love yorkies and a friend needed my help, I had NO idea what Baby looked like, I had never seen her before, so I agreed cause she needed a home. I did not pay any money for Baby, but I have put a LOT of money into her.

As far as Rocky goes, yeah it don't sound good on my part that I happen to get a male and then bam bing Baby is pregnant. But I'm telling you I did not have any intentions on breeding her. I do want to breed, but I wanted to wait till we moved out of town. Bottom line is, Baby is pregnant now and I would have liked to reg this litter, but I'm not going to kill myself trying to hunt these people down. After this is all done and over with, Baby will be spayed. But I do plan to in the future getting a breeding female. I do love this breed more then anything, you have no idea how much I have bonded with Baby over all this, I have laid with her and cried and cried praying everything will go alright and she has a safe whelping. I lay and rub and feel her belly and I feel so close to these pups already, that I know it's going to break my heart to part with them. I know I will be the greatest yorkie gamma ever! My babies are truly spoiled, just ask my husband and kids lol
I have brought Baby to work with me everyday for the past two weeks, I carry her in a blanky and have her "diaper" bag full of all her items she will need for the day. My mom just laughs at me cause she see's me walking in the door with a "Baby" I do love these brats more then anything!

How are akc registries compromised by this? When most people get a ckc dog they realize their chances of having a mix are increased, that's why they are less costly, but they know they can trace their dog somewhat. When people pay high dollars for an akc dog they expect a better quality dog and they expect papers to prove it.
