I did the unthinkable tonight I took the 3 dogs to the store tonight in a nice toasty truck. I removed the keys and used the remote starter to restart the truck as I went in, thinking the car would die if anyone tried to steal it. I wanted the heater going because it was 29 degrees out. All went well, and I drove home around 10 p.m. The car was so warm, I hadn't even bothered to put their coats on. As usual, Jack was yapping nonstop to be the first one out. Lately, I've been trying to teach him that won't work, so I lifted Eddie out of the truck and put him on the ground first. Jack was still yapping, so I closed the driver's side door and walked around to the passenger side and let Rusty out. Jack was still yapping. My plan was to go back around to the driver's side and let Jack out last. But, uncharacteristically, both Eddie and Rusty made a beeline for the neighbor's yard. I yelled to no avail. So I chased them down. Rusty followed me to the front door and I let him in the house and closed the door. Eddie was still over by the neighbor's yard, out of sight, so I chased him down, picked him up and carried him into the house. And forgot all about Jack. My wife called as I was walking in the door and further distracted me. Then I hopped on the computer for a few minutes. Shortly after that, my wife came home and we sat down to watch a show on TV. Rusty by my side on the floor. Eddie on my wife's lap. AND NO JACK, I finally noticed. He had been out in the cold truck for almost an hour when I raced out there barefoot and swung open the door. I don't know how, but the truck still felt semi-warm. Jack seemed plenty warm too. But he chewed me out big time for leaving him in the cold truck. Even though he wanted to be loose, I tucked him under a blanket most of the rest of the night, and he got all the treats he wanted. I think he knew I screwed up because every time I stopped with the treats, he yapped for more. The yapping didn't bother me so much this time. This is a horribly embarrassing story, but I figured it couldn't hurt to let people know it can happen. Well, at least to me. |
o wow good thing Jack was there! |
lmao aww dont feel to bad i only have one yorkie and me and my fiance forgot about her an left her outside poor thing started whining at the door and that when we realised she had been out lol |
Although, its hard, dont feel bad. thank God you did remember about him. It would have been worse if he was outside out of the car that long! |
Aww...in the end it all turned out ok and no harm done. |

He got lots of treats afterwards so I'm sure you've been forgiven. :) |

He was tellin' ya...don't forget me....don't forget me! I suspect hereafter Jack will be allowed out first. ;) I'm glad he was safe...all well that ends well. PS I thought for a minute the unthinkable was taking ALL three to the store. :D |
ah, heck, i think it could happen to any of us :) i bet he is making you pay BIG time now ;) |
Glad it all turned out okay and Jack got some extra treats!! It could have happened to any of us (well not exactly like that), but we all know you are a dedicated daddy!!!!!! |
You're being much harder on yourself than Jack would want you to be. He's thinking it all worked out pretty well with all of those treats - "what's staying in the truck a few extra minutes?":D |
Glad it all turned out okay in the end. Just give Jack some extra hugs and kisses |
So Glad Jack is OK, Bet he gets lots of treats;) LOL, when I saw this I thought No way is he taking all 3 into the store. So Mike, after you knew Jack was safe, warm and full of treats, Did you build a fire to get you're feet warm? It's cold out there!!!! Sending Warm Hugs To All Of You! :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: |
See what happens when you don't listen to your yorkies? I was just habit, if Jack always gets out first by the time you got the last one out you just went with the old habit. Now I know why yorkies are so obsessive - I can just hear my little one saying 'if you do it the same way all the time - it will always be the same'. That's one of the things I adore about yorkies - they obsess! |
awwwwwww Jack has already forgotten!! I cant imagine 29 degrees! We had lunch outside the other day in the shade on the patio of a resturant. It must have been 75 outside and we were complaining we didnt bring sweaters!! When you go from 100 to 75 it is a big drop too!! But 29??? yikes. I would never go outside!! lololol. |
Aww, poor thing, I bet you're still beating yourself up over that one:( So, I wonder if Jack will ever want to go for a ride again? And if he does, will he still yap to be first to let out? Hmm . . . stay tuned for the Alaska saga of My Three Sons:D |
Now you know why he wants to get out first! He's so tiny he gets forgotten, poor baby. |
Poor Jack. Don't feel bad Mike these things happen to all of us. I bet Jack won't let you forget it either for awhile. He'll milk this for sometime to come I'm sure:p I bet he'll always be the first one out once again so he problably feels it was worth it to get his way.;) |
Poor little Jack. At least the truck stayed warm enough for him and he's ok. Don't beat yourself up too badly. I'm sure it can happen to the best of us--especially when we change our routine. So let this be a lesson to you--go back to your typical routine and let King Jack out first :p |
Aww I'm so glad everything turned out fine. At first I thought you were going to say your car was stolen with all the babies inside:eek: thank god you didn't:) anyways were all human, were made to forget...LOL |
Oh wow! How scary!! I guess this just shows that anyone can make a mistake... I'm glad everything turned out alright. |
It's an honest mistake that can happen to anyone, you didn't do anything on purpose, and I'm sure Jack forgives you. Sometimes when your mind is preoccupied with something (or one yorkie) you forget about what else is going on. I'm glad everyone is O.K though! |
THAT'S IT! I'm reporting you to the PMMS agency (Parents Make Mistakes Sometimes). I'm sick of you spoiling your babies, taking good care of them, and being so responsible ;) Haha don't beat yourself up too much, these things happen sometimes. You're a good daddy, and they all love you :D |
Oh my! Ya know you are not the only one it has happened to! When we were still in Alaska I took Teddy and Chloe (our golden) out somewhere. Chloe had been laying quietly in the back and hadn't even popped her head up so when we got home...I forgot she was even in there! I grabbed Teddy and went in the house. I think it was about 2 hours later when my son said where is Chloe! It was cold out, thank God...she loves the cold weather. It could nave been disastrous if it had been hot out! I won't even take her in the car if it is warm out at all. Poor thing was laying there in the back seat looking like I had interupted her nap when I raced out to get her. |

Your still a good daddy and I'm sure he forgave you! |

Glad you found him ok. |
Glad he was ok................I've done something similar with mine as they are so underfoot. I go into a walk-in closet and when I leave I close the door not thinking they are right there or I go into the garage and leave the door ajar and they sneak out and I go back in and they are still out there. But mine are such glue babies that when I do sit down they are all RIGHT THERE with me and when one doesn't show up, I know I've "done it again." Blame it on Rusty and Eddie, they destracted you......it's there fault! ROFL And make sure you tell Jack that!;) |
LOL...now we can laugh....but I've been there with ya Mike but not with Izzy. We have three indoor cats and never had to worry about the escaping from our patio door until we got Izzy. The patio door is where we let Izzy in/out to go potty. We are always careful but I guess one of our cats got out without us knowing and about 6 hours later I see this strange cat on our deck and I went to get up to get it away thinking it was a stray and low and behold...it was our cat Snicky. That little goober snuck right out without us even knowing it. So it can happen to anyone. Thank goodness our yard is fenced in and he didn't hop anything to get out. Yay - Jack will milk this for a while and get all the treats he wants...lol. For sure he'll be let out first from now on. :D |
I'm so glad things turn out o.k. Don't be too hard on yourself, please. It was just a honest mistake. I'm sure Jack forgot all about except he wants more treats!!! |
