| Gracie's hunger strike is getting out of hand..what to do? As I posted before Hallee had ACL surgery on Thursday. Since then Gracie has been on a hunger strike, guess you can call it. Hallee is crated to keep her from hurting her leg while healing. She does not have her playmate to eat, sleep and play with. We have gotten Gracie to eat boiled warm chicken and now she just turns her nose up at everything she always ate before. I have tried baby carrot food, greenbeans and cottage cheese mixed in with her food. Not all togehter of course. She always loved getting those things as special treats. Hand feeding does not work anymore. I had them both out together this morning and Gracie would sit as close to me as she could and when Hallee would come and sit next to Gracie, Gracie would move or turn her back to Hallee. Hallee would try to kiss her and Gracie kept moving her face to avoid being kissed. They always got along great so I am not sure what is going on here. This is so unlike Gracie and she has not acted like this before. I have tried giving Gracie extra attention, but that does not seem to work. I am waiting on the vet to call me back because I am concerned. I am at my wits end to get her to eat. I don't know what else is good to try to feed her. I can't let her go without for fear of hypo. We have been giving her some nutracal also. Any suggestions?

| poor thing. She can tell something is wrong with her sister, just not sure what... it must be scary for her to see Hallee with the cast on her leg... when you feed Gracie is she out of view from hallee? maybe just being in the same room as her sister is making her stressed? |

| Hallee is not in a cast, just stitches and hobling around. There food is in the same room. I will try that, moving Gracie's food to another room.

| When I first got Abby she wouldn't eat. i mixed her hard food with some soft and gravy, then slowly weaned her off to just dry. Might be wort a shot. I know the gravy's not the best but if she's eating.....

| I'm sure she is depressed. Some dogs are just so empathic! |

| Gave Gracie a treat this morning and she gobbled up her chicken after that. Hope she keeps eating. The vet has not returned my call yet.

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | IF YOU WERE GIVING GRACIE DRY KIBBLE CAN YOU GRADUALLY PUT IT IN WITH THIS CHICKEN TO GET HER BACK TO EATING IT, HAVE YOU TRIED PUTTING A BIT OF NUTRI CAL ON HER DRY KIBBLE. OUR VET HAD US GIVE BABY BLESSING SOME OF THE GATORADE ONTO HER DRY KIBBLE THE TIME AFTER SHE GOT SO SICK ON A BAD BATCH OF DOG FOOD. IT WORKED Last edited by Baby Blessing; 11-12-2007 at 11:19 AM. |
