| Potential Yorkie Mom Seeking Advice Hello all. This is my first time here on Yorkie Talk. I came across the site because I am doing my research before I take the big plunge and become a Yorkie mom. I am seeking any advice you could give about purchasing (where: pet store, direct from breeder?), average cost for purchase, etc. All info needed, accepted and welcomed!!! |

| First please do not buy from a pet store. They usually come from puppy mills and can have health problems. Plus we should not support puppy mills. Get your puppy from a reputable breeder. There is a section here on the forum where you can buy and sell puppies. There are breeders on here. I am not sure of their prices or anything but I am sure other people will post and let you know more information. You have definately come to the right place. These people here are great and full of wonderful information.

| One thing you NEVER want to do is to buy from a petstore..these pups that they sell there are from puppy mills, and a lot of times, you're ending up with a very sick dog, or not even a purebred..A good reputable breeder would never have to send their dog to a pet store..There are a lot of good breeders with dogs for sale on the yorkies for sale/wanted on this website. Anywhere from $600 on up..we still have a lot of them for sale in the $600-$900 range down here..Where in VA are you located? I am actually located in Baltimore, MD. I am glad I came here. I was in one of those mall pet shops not too long ago and they were asking $2500 for a pup. I immediately left. Do you have a website? |

| Before taking the plunge I would highly recommend you to read Yorkshire Terriers for Dummies. Does this really exist? |

The Yorkshire Terriers Book for Dummies is actually a great book to read on the yorkies. You can go to your library and see if they have it, if not, they can order it from another library for you. "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Yorkshire Terriers "and "A kennel Club Book Yorkshire Terrier a comprehensive Guide To Owning and Caring for Your Dog" is a great book too, I just went out and bought them from Borders today. I have been wanting a little boy for over 10 years. And he was just born September 30, Jeter comes home in December and I am so excited. I started searching for information back in May and stumbled across Yorkie Talk and I love all the information here, every one is so nice! You want to get your puppy from a reputable breeder. Prices vary depending on your area and girls are most likely to cost more then a boy. I am using the same Breeder that my mom used to get her girl from and I am so happy with her, she is very nice and has been in contact with me way before the parents were breed! You won't find support like that from a pet store!

| Oh, I know about the Dummies books, but I didn't realize they had so many different ones! Thanks for the info. I am finding that pricing for females in significantly higher than males. |

| Price also depends on if you want to have full registration or limited. Which means that you can breed or are just having it for a pet. Talk to some of the people with the higher prices. If you are what they are looking for they might cut the price a bit. But make sure that you do your research first to make sure this dog is right for you. Happy researching and keep asking questions.
