little max MY daughter had a yorkie that was at the vets with parvo for 6 days, then when she came home we had to watch her very carefully, she ended up with a very sensitive stomach and eats food from the vet and no extra's. She is healty and happy...when she got the dog she was told with her being 6months old that all shots were done..breeder gave paperwork..the vet said no way did she have all the shots the breeder said she did.. I just want you to know something postive. I am sure the vet charges little for overnight stays. I would think the biggest part of you bill is already the initial tests and fuilds. I am anxious to see how max does and let us all know when you get hime home... I also think you need to tell the vet and tell him in no uncertain terms you are visiting..I think that would help you so much. There is no reason that you could not visit her daily for a an hour..we saw our daughters dog when we wanted to, no questions asked at all. It did her good to know we were all there for her. I think it would help both you and max. pooh's mum |
i hope max is doing better today. I know it can seem hard sometimes when you have a pet in hospital. At local vet hosps i feel they should be able to give you whatever information you want at whatever time or be able to leave a message for the vet to call you back. At my emergency hospital sometimes its just not possible to get a full report on the pets progress because we simply do not have the time to chat because we have so many animals to take care of. more time on the phone is less time with the animals. However, since you said your hosp is smaller and not busy i do not see why the doc couldn't have gotten on teh phone with you to report how Max was doing. It should be common practice to get a phone call update from the vet at least once a day in the morning or at night to tell you how he is. Also a note about visiting: while you may think its a good idea, most times it is not. Sure the pet is VERY happy to see you in most cases and you may think it help him out but a lot of times once you leave the pet is crying and getting himself all worked up because he still wants to see you. This can not be good if the pet is sick and we need to keep him calm. its harder on them to see you for 10 minutes and then have you leave then to not see you at all while they are there. just something to keep in mind. good luck! |
Kalina82, That's what I actually was thinking, regarding visiting. I know that dogs don't have the ability to understand the concept of "tomorrow", or "I'll be back later". They live in the here and now and I figured the constant up and down of seeing me and having me leave would be worse for him than to not see me at all. Out of sight, out of mind. I'm frustrated and worried but hopefully soon this will all be over and we can get on with our lives. |
I hope your little one is feeling better! Our prayers are with you ..... |
Hope he feels better soon! |
Aww, I hope your little baby gets better quickly! |

I was just trying to say it might help. I know it helped us to see for ourselves and not have a different person talk to us each time we called..but I guess if 10 minutes is all you can visit it is not worth worrying about. pooh's mum pooh's mum |
I am just now catching up on YT and I am sooo sorry to hear about your baby. I hope that everything turns out well and I will say a prayer for both of you. |
I talked with the vets again today. The nurse (is that what they're called or do you call them vet techs?) called me and said Max had ate some canned food last night. He kept it down just fine and went poop a little last night, and then again this morning. Both times were normal. She said the vet wanted to get as much of the drip in him today as possible (not sure what's in "the drip". Just fluids or a combination? Didn't think to ask) but for me to call back around 3:30 and that he'd probably be ready to go home. She was a little short with me and I could tell that she was probably ticked off from me calling yesterday and questioning them. Oh well, the important thing is Max is doing well and most likely coming home today! Yeah! Thanks so much again everyone for all your prayers and well wishes. I will post an update when Max gets home. |
Thats great news, will keep max in my prayers, let us know when he comes home:D :D yahhhh max:) |
:dogsm2: yeah!! Glad it sounds like Max will be on his way home!! Don't give those vet techs a worry. If they're irritated with you - who cares - this is your baby. Who knows, the gal may just be stressed out, and you're getting the brunt of it - might not have anything to do with you or sweet Max. Prayers for a continued recovery!! |
Praying that your baby continues to get strong and healthy! |
I'm glad he continues to improve, praying for a fast recovery so he can go home with his mommy :) |
Rachel, as you know I am so delighted to hear this!! Hugs!! |
