Calling all Darker Yorkies...... I would like to see some puppy pictures of some of the yorkies that are darker as opposed to the lighter coloring. I LOVE the look of the darker ones but amd not sure I could choose one even if I seen it. I have my ritzy and LOVE him , he is a really light silver and light gold but I also like the little dark shaded ones. THANKS Bon |
♥Momma Lilly♥ 4 Attachment(s) Here's pix of my Momma Lilly she is on the darker side: Attachment 165409Attachment 165410Attachment 165411Attachment 165412 Isn't she s0o0o0o0o gorgeous ?? i have more pix coming up !! ;) ;) |
The light yorkies have more "silk" whereas the darker ones have a tendancy to have a thicker coat (sometimes called soft, wool). They're harder to keep groomed as well. I don't know how to upload a picture (yet) but here's a link to a really nice male I was showing. |
♥Last Set i promise...♥ 4 Attachment(s) She's my little Momma !! :D :D Attachment 165414Attachment 165415Attachment 165416Attachment 165417 i hope that this help ya make a great decision on a darker yorkie !!  Good luck on your search !! :D :D |

Actuallie that's not tru....my Lilly's hair is thicker however my Daddy Dexter's hair is on the lighter side and does have thinner hair but after a few days of cleaning him it gets all stringy & oily compair to Momma Lilly which doesn't do that @ all....here's a pix of My Daddy Dexter: Attachment 165418Attachment 165419Attachment 165420Attachment 165421 And another problem w/ the lighters ones they do get tangles more often compair to my lilly. |
Yes.... SHe is adorable! Did you know when you got her as a puppy she woudl be this dark? DO you ahve puppy pic before they make the big change? The extra grooming would be worth it. Ritz has fine silky hair but I jsut like the darker ones too. Bonnie |
Yeppers my ritz is like that,His coat is smootha nd silky but after a few days from a good long bath and conditioning his caot seperates and no amount of brushing ( misted of course) will help it is eaither back tot he tub or brushing like crazy for him to look good for about 2 hours then it seperates again and looke really wild. He doesnt really mat up just seperates and needs to be bathed and dried etc. |

Tammy's coat is thicker....she is the darkest....she is next to Tara in pic 1. Here is Casper in pics 2,3,4, at 1yr, at 3yrs and at 5yrs....he is almost silvery white and getting lighter still....I am growing his coat again....so the longer it gets the whiter it's looking ! It is now longer and whiter than this. Debra x |

I've experienced that the "darker soft coats" tend to tangle closer to the skin and their hair was better with the heavy conditioner that left the layer on kylie. But that's different from a darker silk brought about by good breeding, which I hope to one day get... so if you know of a nice short, dark and hairy stud out there ;) Alana |
I was pretty sure that Sunshine would stay dark as both her mommy and daddy were very dark. Rainbow, I wasn't sure. Daddy is VERY light and Mommy is Sunshine.. very dark. But it sure looks like she is taking after mom. Her brother Beamer actually takes after his dad, but I don't think he is going to get quite as light as dad. |
4 Attachment(s) Dexter is a lovley colour...I don't usually like the lighter ones, but he looks glorious....I hope Casper's coat grows in as nice as that now he's gone silver....he was nice when long and dark ! > I didn't know what colour they'd end up when I got them. Tara was 6 weeks when I bought her, and supposed to be about 7lbs as well, but grew to 4lbs and tiny ! In the end I liked her small that much that I looked for dogs the same size and got Casper at 19 months, 4lbs and dark - now 5 years and silver, and Tammy at 3 years, 3lbs and black...now 4 years and 4lbs and healthy - she was in a terrible mess when I got her. I love all Yorkies so much that each is individually beautiful and I would home them all if I could ! :D Debra x Terrible Trio Tara the "Scottish Queen" Cheeky Casper Tammy the "ASBO" (anti social behavioural order !) |

Actuallie Momma Lilly was way darker than that before as she has gotten older she started more brown in her face now here's a few pix of her when she was younger but mind ya it was taken w/ a cellphone camera so it's not very clear it was also taken in 2004 too... Attachment 165460Attachment 165461Attachment 165462Attachment 165463 Isn't she just too kootie ?? how could you say no to that ??  |
1 Attachment(s) My oops, I guess I automatically thought of the soft coats because they're really dark but I'm seeing you all do have darker silk. My girl (she was recently stolen) has the most beautiful darker silver, it grew quickly and was really easy to care for. I've figured out how to attach a picture to give an idea of what was in my brain. The one on the left is my Lulu but the male on the right (really dark) is a soft coat, which is what I thought was the topic. Alana |

Awwwwww thank you Miss Debra !! Isn't he just the sweetest thing you have ever seen ?? i just luv luv luv his coloring i have complete opposite for yorkies !! i just luv his coloring as well !! :D :D |
4 Attachment(s) I prefer darker colors too...a dark steel blue and and tan. Making sure the parents are both dark in color will probably help ensure the puppy stays darker, especially if the grandparents and dogs further back in the lines are darker as well. Lacy's dark in color. Here are pics 1 & 2: 10 weeks old 3 & 4: 6 or 7 months old |
4 Attachment(s) 1. 1.5 years old 2 - 4 This year (from 2.5-3 years of age) |
4 Attachment(s) Here's my crew of darkies! Jazzie, Jolie & Jen! Jazzie is our first Yorkie and when her coat stayed dark, we were looking specifically for new babies who had more potential to stay dark since we like the coloring so much. Our Jewel who passed away was a darkie too (She's the 4th picture) |

My wife and I hoped that Eddie wouldn't turn light, and he didn't. Then we got Jack and we realized they're cute no matter what color they are. I was actually surprised when I learned that dark bodies are not standard. Here's Eddie, dark and proud: |
3 Attachment(s) Here is my little Oreo (named after the chocolate cookie:)) He is born very dark and is still dark, he is only 12 weeks old:D :D |
1 Attachment(s) My charlie hopper is very dark! Blue and gold, He is almost 2 and his coat is exactly the same as new yorkie pups! |
my avatar has my black and gold. like you, i love the darker ones but i do have the standard ones as well. i love them all!!!! |
3 Attachment(s) I love the dark coats also....I saw the parents, one was darker and one was lighter I figured I had a chance he was going to be dark because he was on the darker side as a pup....the first pic is him as a pup the second one is when he was about 5 months old and the third is what he looks like now.... |
1 Attachment(s) My Joey is my darkest boy:D He is also the most layed back babie i have, his personality is so wonderful, he is my rescue babie:p As you can see he also loves to lay on my end tables:rolleyes: |
3 Attachment(s) My 2 are almost 2 Pixie and 2 1/2 year old Cali. Different breeders. Both have the black coat. Pixie has the very silky, thinner coat and Cali has the very cottany thick coat. Neither of them have any lighter gray on their backs. Cali has some on her underside from beings shaved there a few times. My next one I hope gets the lighter silvery blue. |
