| The clicker is a reward marker, you start with giving them treats, and when they take it click. So that they start to associate treat with click. You can then start with a target, this can be your hand or an object, when they touch the target you click then treat. They do an action and they get a reaction. Then when you are doing your training, say you are teaching the sit, after your initial command and they sit, you will click then treat. So eventually they will know that clicking means they are good and you can save the treats for the end of the sessions. The clicker works good because it is a very definite sound. For Pita I like a verbal command better than the click, I say good girl but ONLY when she deserves praise, it just works for me better. My instructor at Petsmart likes to say "yes" but it just doesn't come naturally for me. I am not a trainer but I have used the clicker on my horse and he does good with it, he can even throw a frisbee! Good Luck!! |

Come to think of it, I also have a silent whistle. I must have dog's ear, because I can hear it just fine, along with every other critter in the neighborhood. Why do they call it silent?

| Congrats on winning. I love the clicker. The click marks a behavior and tells your dog that whatever it was doing when it heard the click will now be rewarded so it is also useful teaching them to stop bad behavior. If your dog is barking, you give the command and if they stop - click and reward. Remember every time you click they get a treat so even if you click by accident they still get the treat. Good luck.

| I can only tell you the way I used it but for the first couple of days I didn't give any commands. I spent a few minutes several times each day just clicking and giving the treat (about 15 times). It helps them understand very quickly the click means they get a treat and they want to do anything to hear that click. Use a treat they really love. Hope that helps.

| I think you got it. Its: 1. The command(sit, down, talk, etc..) 2. The dog does the command 3. Click the "Clicker" 4. Reward(treats) I like using the clicker for distance work. First, I don't have to shout "Good girl" across the room, second my dog knows they got it right even if I'm not right beside them to treat them. |
