Poor Paisley : ( Please pray for her.
 

Hi everyone, as a few of you know Paisley was scheduled to be spayed today. A few days ago she had bloodwork done and everything came back normal except for two things that deal with her blood. It was showing Paisley as a bleeder (hemophilia). The results were through the roof high and my vet assumed this to be an error. She said Paisley would be bleeding out from everywhere, so she planned to cut her toenail too short today before surgery to see how the blood clotted. Well it took about 5 minutes and that didn't make my vet comfortable with putting her under. She said the normal time is 1-2 minutes. They took more blood today and are having more tests ran to see what the results show. The doctor was nervous but does hope this has alot to do with her being so excited. My vet said high blood pressure can cause them to take longer to clot (hopefully this is Paisley's case from being so hyper). I'm a nervous wreck now and have myself completely sick. If she does have this disorder it will be a major ordeal to find out what is wrong and she will have to see a specialist. Please please please pray for Paisley. We might find out the results tomorrow but if not it won't be until Monday. If anyone has experience with this please let me know. I just pray she's ok. Thanks for the prayers everyone. ;)

Oh gosh, Dina~ I have no experience with this in dogs. I just love Paisley so much I don't want anything to be wrong with her! I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Would it be ok if she didnt' get spayed? I don't have a girl dog, so I don't know anything about that. Please, dear God, let little Paisley be ok:hands:

Oh Dina, I'm so sorry. But try to think positive. Sweet Paisley was probably just really excited... and its probably nothing to worry about. Please keep me updated on everything. I bet she is going to come out of this just fine!

I'm sorry.:( but look at it this way. Atleast your vet cared enough to investigate before spaying.

Thank you so much everyone. You guys are all so wonderful. ;) I would like to suggest something for anyone getting their babies spayed, neutered or whatever. If I would have had the BASIC pre-blood work done at the vet's office this morning before surgery this would not have been found. I had the option to get a little more than the basic blood work done and that is how we found out about this. I'm just so upset right now and I can't even think what it's called that they tested but all you have to do is tell your vet you want to make sure that your baby's blood clots normal. Your vet should know right away what your talking about. I'm praying Paisley does not have this disorder but if she does and we didn't know about it, she more then likely would not have made it through surgery. Please do yourself a favor and have the pre-blood work and also have this checked. Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. ;)

I am so glad that the vet followed through and checked her clotting time! Hopefully she was just to hyper and it made the numbers go up, but non the less thank goodness you had the blood work done. I will keep Paisley in my prayers. I sure hope every thing turns out ok with her!

We requested this for Gizmo before his neuter as a precaution. (He had that rat bait scare a month or so before that if you remember.) It really didn't cost that much more...for us it only added about $20. Just FYI.

They tested my pom for that because when they drew blood the last few times she bruised so badly and she needed to be put under for a liver biopsy. Her clotting time was fine but s
hHe stopped breathing during surgery because of the suspected liver disease but because she is being treated at the ER hospital the critical care doctor took over and brought her back. I have yearly blood work done on all 3 of mine just to keep an eye on their general health. Cali has mild MVD and Maya is over 10 with several major diseases. I think routine blood work is the way to go. I hope the new bloodowrk comes back normal. I will keep her in my prayers

Dina, I am so sorry you are going through this with Paisley. Thank goodness you did such extensive testing before the surgery!Please keep us updated on her condition. I feel so bad for you Hon, I can just imagine the knot in your stomach, over the worry you must be feeling.

How thoughtful of you to still think of other furbabies at a time like this, and warn us all about the importance of pre-surgery testing.

I'm so sorry to hear that. :( Thank God you went a step further with the blood work. And I thank you for letting us all know this. I never knew about the additional blood work that you would ask for. It's a shame the vets don't normally give us that option. :( Prayers coming Paisley's way and yours. :hands:
