The Funniest Thing Happened Today... Hello everyone. First of all, Happy Halloween! Anyway, many of you know that I have been looking for a Yorkie for the last 3 years or so and now I actually went ahead and started looking for one. Well, today I saw two different puppies. The first one was already 4 months old and was still pretty small and cute. Her ears weren't up, but I think that could have been fixed. But I also had an appointment to look at another lady's puppy. This lady had had an ad in the paper for a while and I called her to see if she still have puppies available. She said her's were all gone, but her daughter also sold Yorkies and she had a little girl he daughter didn't want to sell, but she always ended up selling them anyway. She said her daughter's dogs were more expensive because they were "tinies." So off I go to see her puppy. So a friend of mine and I go to meet her outside a supermarket and we go to her car and she brings out a tiny Yorkie...that really wasn't a Yorkie!!! I looked at the puppie's face and thought, Yup, Chihuahua mix. She of course, said the puppy was 100% purebreed, etc. But I didn't buy it for a second. I told her, the puppy has white on it's chest and she tried to tell me that they were supposed to have white. Haha, yeah right! I told her only an inch was allowed and this was over the entire front. Then she said the puppy had the long thin nose that was standard for Yorkies. Again, hahaha. The puppy had the Chihuahua popping out eyes and round "apple" head. So not Yorkie characteristics. I told her thank you but that instead I wanted a registered puppy, to which she said I was going to pay more for. Whatever! I laughed so hard about this, I'm still laughing. This is why it pays to know the breed standard. Anyway, on another note, the other puppy I did see was pretty cute. I don't have a picture of her, but I have one of her father. Can anyone comment on it? Let me know what to expect from the puppy? I'll try to get pictures of the puppy from the owner. He's not the breeder. He said he purchased the puppy, but is low on money and needs to sell her. He told me he purchased her in Mexico City and gave me the picture of the father. So if anyone can let me know if I should go for it or pass this one up as well, that would be great. Thanks again to everyone on this board!!! You guys are the best!

Well, I should have known that meeting in a parking lot was bad. But this is Guadalajara, so I'm guessing a lot of people don't feel comfortable letting strangers into their homes....or, she also wanted to rip me off. I told her I wanted to see the parents and she said her daughter had them and her daughter had just left on a trip and she got the puppy from her before she left. I should have known. The sad part is that the lady told me someone had already purchased that puppy's sister for about $10,000....before someone freaks out, that's in Mexican pesos, not dollars. It's about $1,000, U.S. dollars. And if the dogs that were her's were also mixed, I feel bad for the people who paid $500 and $700 for them. The first puppy that I saw, who's father is pictured in my first post, is going for $6,000, about $550 U.S. It's a pretty good deal, but I'm not too sure. I would love to be able to purchase a well breed, fits or comes close to the breed standard, but in California, even BYB are charging over $1,000 for a non registered female Yorkie. <sigh> I guess the search will continue.

I'm not so sure about the first guy. I think he migh be honest. But I think I'll pass and wait until I find one where the parents are on sight and are not over $2,000. I called another ad and that's how much they were charging for a little girl. I thought Mexico would be cheaper...boy was I wrong!

| I'm not saying this is any relation to your story but when I was in the Ixtapa area (more outside in a more rural area) this past summer I was appalled at all of the cages of Yorkies, Maltese and just about any dog you could think on on the side of the road in cages! Stacked cages It bothered me so much that I couldn't go out on excursions because every little town we came to had the same thing - tons of dogs in cages and the dogs on the street were so under nurished it made me cry. I won't say it completely ruined my vacation but it sure put a damper on it. Best of luck in your search...

Actually, they can have white on their chests...The one I just got is purebred yorkie, and he has white on his chest, but, so did my older one, she's 5 now, and doesn't have any white on her anymore..But, the thing is, most likely she was lying(if you know your yorkies), but, I do know that a lot of them are born with the white on the chest..
