| why potty in the kennel? O.k...little miss thang isn't really wanting to potty outside. All she wants to do is play, feel the breeze, enjoy the grass, and...did I mention play?? BUT leave her in a kennel for a few minutes and she uses the potty. ???? She is in a small pet taxi, so not alot of room. She is 11wks.....should I do something or is it too young to really worry about it?

| to successfully potty train you need to minimize her failures and up the successes, so it's never too early to worry about it. In other words, the less mistakes she has, the better her housebreaking will go. So you have 2 options: 1. You can leash her while you go out for potty and keep repeating "go potty" while you redirect her and keep her from playing. You stay out there the whole time, no matter how long it takes, re-directing her from play until she goes. Praise her and treat her immediately. After that you can unleash her and let her play. That way she can begin to understand that she goes potty first and then play after. There will be times, where you will need to only go potty then go back in. This is ok, because she needs to understand that she must potty every time she goes out, but play is only sometimes. 2. You can place an x-pen in a designated potty area outside and when you take her out, she goes in the x-pen and you keep repeating "go potty" and keep redirecting her until she goes. Then when she goes, she gets immediate praise and treat and "gets out of jail" as an added treat, and then play time. But x-pen 1st and play 2nd. Eventually she will potty fast, so she can play sooner.

| LadyLavendar's advice is "on target". This is an exciting time in their life, new sounds, smells, feelings. Have fun and it will come together in time. Warmly, Deborah
