My Yorkie is Bitting Me! Hi, everyone! I am desperately looking for any advice. I have an 11 week old baby (Yorkie). When she is loose and walking around she attacks my feet. Also, when I hold her she does not stay still, like she did when I first got her. She begins to bite me and kind of attacking me. What should I do? |
Play biting - try a high pitched yelp - as if she has hurt you and move away from her for a minute or so. She should soon learn not to nip. |
Hi! Sounds like your baby is trying to be in charge. Try holding her on the carpet on her back for 30 seconds a few times a day. This will help her see you as the leader. When she bites your feet, is she playing? Either way, try saying "NO!" to her very sharply. I have a rule that my dogs aren't allowed to use their teeth on me. When I was training my puppy that, I'd say no, bop him lightly on the snout, and ignore him for a while. That solved the problem. Good luck! I'm sure you'll get lots of great advice from the great people here! :) |
The same thing happened to me with pixie. But she grow out of it. It just takes time. Dont worry just yell at it when it does it or tap it on the nose but not hard just enought to scare it. |

I have done the yelp, no, and provided other toys and chews, but sometimes he gets down right talkative about it. I don't think he is mad, but he does not like "no". What he does is stalk, attack, quick retreat growling and yipping all the way. Seems to me that he finds this amusing, :D which it is, but he needs to learn that no means no. So I am also open to suggestions. Sue |

This exactly what we did with Maggie and it worked great. I no longer have torn socks or hands. |
I have the same problem with Zack. He's a like shark with hair! I've tried all the things posted on this site. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. I think that how he plays...with his mouth. I'm just hoping he will grow out of it...soon! |
Scream "NO" or spray water on her with a water bottle, etc.... Don't let her get away with it and form a habit of doing it. Or you will regret it when she is older and bites harder. |
I just bought this spray called 'Bitter Apple' and i spray a couple drops in my Maxi's mouth and she doens't do it for the rest of the day :p It is a bitter tasting spray... maybe you can even spray some on your toes!! :D |
. My Little Girl Also Bites My Feet When I Walk, Some Times I Step On Her Accidentally.... She Goes After My Shoe Laces And My Socks On My Feet... Say No Very Sharp And She Jumps Up At Me As To Answer Me Back In A Fresh Way.....and Does It Again As I Continue To Walk. Shes Just Nuts... |
When we first got Tinkerbell she would play bite non stop. So I bought some of those plastic gloves and put them on me and my kids and sprayed bitter apple all over them, then we would play with her. It worked really well. Also did it for biting me when I would groom her. She let's me do anything I need to while grooming now. |
. Where Do I Get Bitter Apple Spray? |
Thanks for the idea My little Chloe is bitting my feet, my pant legs, and loves to bite my hands, I will have that bitter apple spray, hopefully it will work. Thanks Thanks Nancy chloegyrl's mom |
You can get the BITTER APPLE spray at most petstores. I got it at a little pet shop near my neighborhood, but you can check Petco, Petsmart, etc. :) Also, I like to shoot Maxi with a water gun if she doesn't behave after I tell her 'NO' :D |
. Thanks For The Bitter Apple Info Gina |
No problem. I found out about BITTER APPLE thru YorkieTalk as well  :yorkietal |
Rocky I just joined Yorkie Talk because I am the proud & happy :) owner of my little Rocky........Thank God I have you all. Rocky is 10 weeks old, and the biting is a constant thing. I will try the bitter apple. Thanks!!!!! |
I have a sollution!!! :D Missy did the same thing to me when she was a baby, they are playing but they are also teething so biting on fingers and toes feels so good to their teeth and gums. Give them a baby carrot to chew on, it will feel so good to their teeth and they will love the taste. When ever Missy would start in on biting me I would give her a baby carrot, after eating the carrot if she continued to bite me I would give her another. I only had to give about 2 or 3 and she would stop biting me because she got her fix with the carrot. Give it a try ;) |
Is it okay at only 10 weeks? |
Sorry but I call I conjure up in my mind is all of you walking around with a yorkied attached to your foot. LOL |
HAHAHAHA I can picture that too :D I would think 10 weeks is old enough as long as your puppy seems healthy. It doesn't really say anything about age on the bottle. Maybe you can ask the petstore or your vet. |
A little training trick I've had luck with is pull up on the hair on the back of the puppies neck. I do it and say no at the same time. It does not hurt them, just gets their attention. Some one told me that is how a momma dog would correct a baby so they understand it. Not sure if that is true, but it does work. |
ill try anything at this point . |
good advice! Good advice, I like the bitter apple spray. I didn't get to bring my yorkie home yet, but whenever I go visit her, she LOVES to nibble on my hands. Yes it may be cute now lol but she is also only going on 10 weeks. I'm sure it is a good idea to put a stop to it! Good luck to all of you who have biting full balls! Christine :p |
I have tried the water spray bottle- Starsky likes it I have tried bitter apple spray- Starsky licks it off I have tried a tap on the nose- Starsky snapps back rebelling I have bark, growled, cried- Starsky continues to bite I have ignored him- Starsky just runs away like he doesn't care. The only thing that sometimes works... Is when I tell him to sit or do a command and he does it, I say "yes" kind of in a high pitch. So when he bites I command him to do "kisses" and when he does I say "yes!" and he will continue to kiss me. It all depends on how hyper he is! So if you have any other suggestions that I haven't tried, let me know. He is 4 and a half months and I keep hoping he will grow out of this soon! |

I sprayed some cologne/perfume on my feet, my pup leave me alone. |
I tried the baby carrot thing and it works wonders!!! Fred still runs after me biting the bottom of my PJ's or at my feet and when I play or pet him, he'll go after my fingers. But I try to get to the fridge as quick as possible so I could replace my fingers with a carrot and that distracts him |

I posted my baby carrot suggestion above ;) |
I tried the spray water bottle method and it worked! Now all I have to do is pick the bottle up and he stops doing whatever I told him "No" for. woohoo! |
