Well, the nose taps may not work if used only occasionally, but one evening Kacee and I had about a ten-minute session of it. I always sit on the floor to play with her and she would decide that chewing on me was better than playing with her trillion toys. Now, it is something that she'll test me on, but I raise my hand up and she'll back off and then we go ahead and play with the toys. I know she's only playing, but I can't allow her to do that. My mother lives with us and she's too elderly to have a yorkie hanging on her feet! :D I remember Muffin and I went through a bit of that, but Muffin was more of a little girl, whereas, Kacee is our little tomboy. It's not something that I enjoy doing, but it was the only thing we tried that did work. |
I have the same problem with Buster. I just carry the long rawhide sticks and encourage him to chew those. He has this thing for flannel PJ bottoms, and he attacks my pant leg and tries to hump it. I just pick him up and tell him no. I pick up Buster a lot. I was told that holding them gives them the message that you are dominant. They have to accept your handling. he actually enjoys being totedaround. Anyhow I hate when he bites my toes so that's when I pull his scruff and hold him there. That's what a momma would do. |
i tried spraying water and Bailey just thought it was the funniest thing in the world. It had no effect on him whatsoever. but i will definitly give the bitter apple a shot |

You are so right! I suggest getting an empty aluminum soda can and placing some change in it (pennies, nickels...) and taping it closed. When the puppy does this again, be sure and have the can ready and shake it vigorously while speaking in a firm tone and say "No!". It will scare the bajeebers out of him and after a few times of this, the nipping should stop. |
I'm glad someone else's babies do this....i swear i thought he was the only one.... sometimes it's kind of funny to watch him do it....it's not funny when he does it to you...his teeth are sharp!!! thanks for all the suggestions.... |
I'm so glad I found this post. My pup bites me so hard in the tops of the ankles. He licks/sucks my toes and fingers, but really goes after my ankles. I've tried saying "NO", nothing, "OUCH" worked once or twice now nothing, "NO" with light bottom spanking worked a couple times now just makes him more angry. I've tried holding him still til he settles, comes right back. rolling him on his back, thinks it's a game. Lately I've been just putting my feet up on the coach so he can't get them and he gets mad and barks at me. I will try water (the book I read suggested vinegar water) the smell is supposed to confuse them (don't spray it on them) I think my puppy liked it. It is funny though when it happens to someone else. He bit my husband in the armpit this morning and I about couldn't hold my laughter in. At least it's not just me. I was sure last night that he hated me. |

Or bitterapple-it is a liquid that leave a bad aftertaste in the dogs mouth. People spray it on the object the dog is bitting. |
Bailey will not stop biting as well. i tried the bitter apple and the water bottle and the crying and the screaming, he just has to bite something and my skin is very popular. what i have done and i'm not sure if this is the right thing to do but it helps. when i play with him i cover up my legs and feet. or make sure i am wearing jeans because their razers wont go through that much. and i just make sure i have a million chew toys around so that i can jam them in his mouth if he wants to bite me. if he manages to get a hold of my skin (which he always does) i punish him and ignore him for a while and tell him he is bad. its funny about the armpit comment. my boyfriend came home from his soccer game the other night and bailey went straight for his armpit although he was licking it too!!!! |
When Chachi was that age he would bite your feet and we would spray bitter apple on our feet. It only took a couple of times and then he quit doing it. |
