attach a small leash to his harness and let him drag it around the house for awhile, he will get use to it being on him.

Also small tiny treats may take his mind off the walking, just give him small bites every few steps.

He will get use to it eventually.

Cut your human food treats into little tiny pieces - about the size of a pencil eraser - and he won't be getting enough to harm him. I used little bits of leftover meat or cheese for potty training. You gotta make it worth his while!

All of which he will eat, but loses interest in very quickly.

Chattiesmom makes great dried Yorkie Yummies. They are cut into bite sized pieces and my two love them. She normally sends them out near the middle of the month, search for yorkie yummies and you should find some info.

Yeah he was really into the cheerios for a while. Now he puts them in his mouth and drops them and runs away to play lol

Cody was pretty much a natural at walks. As far as we know, he was never put on a leash before we got him, but at 8 weeks, we put him on a leash (just a collar, not a harness) and away we went. I think it helped that we used the leash on him a lot for other things too. The first thing he did with us was a 2 hour trip home, so we made frequent stops and brought him out in the grass on a leash since we didn't know when he had last eaten. We also have two leashes that we hook up together and tie to a pole outside when we're home but can't be with him (or he's refused to go potty for the last four hours and we're sick of standing around waiting for him so we can bring him back inside :rolleyes: )

as for the treats, he won't touch carrots (we tried to use them for fiber), haven't tried apple, won't touch strawberries (also tried for fiber) but he does seem to like Iams puppy biscuits. Sometimes he's stubborn and won't touch them, but we make a big deal about giving them to him because they're a potty training praise- we just break off a bite size piece so he gets about one full biscuit a day but at lots of different times. He's usually pretty excited about them though

Well you're lucky! I wish Winston would go on walks naturally! I'm dying to take him to the park and play with him in the grass while the weather is nice out!!

He just sits there and stares at me though lol

I need to get him a better harness ASAP also.


I think I'll have to grab some biscuits and see how he feels about those!!

I am having harness issues.. He fights me to put it on.. (the kind that slips over the head and you put one leg through and snap it closed)

once its on he is usually fine with it,...

But getting it off is a fight and a half... and suggestions or better harness Ideas?

Collar or Harness
 

Hi...I am a new Yorkie mommy and my guy Jack does not like walking on the harness or collar. He sits down and won't walk at all. He is now 4 1/2 months old and is very independent. My husband wants to leave a collar on him at all times so when we take him outside he can clip a leash on him. My husband is scared he is going to lose him. He is barely 4 lbs and the tiny collar seems wrong.

I will be putting up a picture very soon...a little new at all of this.
