Please Help! Hello everyone! I really need your help and feedback! I have been training my 12 week old Yorkie and he will pee on the wee wee pad but poop everywhere else! Can someone please tell me why that is and what I could possibly do to stop that???? I am getting so desperate, I don't know what to do anymore. I have put him in the bathroom with a section for his bed, another for his food and another for his wee wee pads and I have blocked the area off with a gate. But as soon as I let him out he will come and poop! And if he does poop in the bathroom its not on the wee wee pad! PLEASE HELP ME! |
I know exactly what you mean, Iam going through the same thing. Sorry I cannot help you! |
Sophie is 18 weeks old and most of the time she will poop *wherever.* To be honest, I'd much rather her poop in the house than potty. It's easier to find and to clean :D But it can be frustrating, when we are so diligent to train and she seems poop-challenged. ;) Continue being consistent and she will gradually learn to poop on the pads, and you will see the light at the end of the tunnel :animal-sm |
I'm going through the same thing with Rams. I can even take him outside and he will pee, but the minute we get in the house he will poop. I even tried watching him and when he starts to squat picking him up and carring him to the pee pad then rewarding him after he has gone, and it doesn't work. If you find something out please let me know!! |
Sorry..no help here...going through the same thing :( |
Calling all experienced yorkietalkers! Where are you, come out whereever you are! |
Wow at least I'm not going at this alone! I was honestly getting really depressed because I thought I was doing something wrong! I even brought 2 training books and still nothing! If anyone find anything out please let us all know! |
12 weeks is still very young many dogs will have accidents till they are a year or more old. And prepare for old age incontinence thats even worse than puppy pee and pooing because they don't even know they are doing it ;) |
I hope this works cause it worked for me.my girls poop-pees on the pad took a long time.but my male was really easy to train to pee on the pad,but never poop there. He had one specific place he would always poop,so instead of moving the poop to the pad and leaving it there all day and hope he goes there.I've decided to put a newspaper where he usually poop. It's alot easier to clean up.Sometimes they get it and sometimes you have to let them go where they want to go.It worked for my girls but not for my male. But they still have accidents. |
Fresh Pads? Quote:
I have two pads that are about 4 feet away. If I am too sleep early in the morning to take her out I let her use the pads. She always pees on one and poops on the other. Now that she is bigger (14 weeks) I put down a fresh pad after she pees on it once. I also spray perfume where she has had an accident so she will not use the spot again. |
Sorry, girls!! Persistence & continuity are key to pad training!! Toto will be 2 years old next month and it's still a "celebration" every time she goes. :) If we miss a pee pee or poop, she comes and lets us know because she wants her treat and we figure, she's doing her part so we better do ours!! I know it gets frustrating and you want to give up, but don't ... some take several months before they fully get the idea, but they do get it!! Our little "angel brat" will even turn her little butt towards us so we can "blot" her pee pee with tissue!! She doesn't like her fur wet and we don't like to pick her up with pee pee on her!! ;) |
I am going through the same thing as well. What I do is I put pads where he likes to poop so then he will get used to going on the pad. I am hoping that once he gets used to going on the pad, I can move it back to where I originally had it. Try it out, it seems to have helped me. Good luck! |
Hey everyone! Bettyeanne is right! Persistence and continuity are the keys. I don't pee pad train. My pups go outside, but I have noticed that my dogs never pee and poo in the same place. We walk the yard, they pee. We walk the yard, they sniff sniff sniff and find a different place to poo. Usually they don't pee and poo in the same trip. So maybe use a one pad for pee and a pad for poo in a different place?? Yes its frustrating, but its worth it! Good luck! |
I agree with Cynthia. Our first Yorkie was trained to go outside in the daytime and nice weather. She had certain spots to make her deposits. She was trained to use the pads in our garage at night and in bad weather and it was the same in there as outside. She had her designated pee pads and her designated poop pads and you better put the pads where she wanted them, too. :D |
I have tried the pads in 2 different places and he just pees on both of them...and then goes and poops somewhere else...lol...I mop and spray the liquid so they can't smell where they went and he will just go in a differnt area...but he's getting a little better...so we will see. :( |
Luzangela428 what spray do you use? Thanks |
I never could get Maggie to use the pads. She wants to go use outside bathroom. I always take her out on a retractable leash, and always to the same spot. I can almost set my watch with the time she will poo twice a day. If you use this method, take them to the bathroom spot, let out about 8-10 of leash, and keep you body put. They will pace back and forth and then it's showtime. Works everytime. Before we would take walks around the yard, but that was nothing but a scavenger hunt. Training her now to ring the bell on the door knob. I ask her if she need to PP, then tell her to ring the bell. She jumps up, hits the bell. I then clip her leash on and out we go. |

Thanks for the info. I will be going this week as well. |
I have pads for Cookie, also, I use a large plastic toy box that I got from a hardware store. I fill it with cat litter and after she wakes up, pees on the pad, I put her into the what I call the poo-poo box and tell her to 'wee' (yeah, I know it sounds silly, but I can't bring myself to say poo-poo) and I tell her to 'stay' and I sit or stand close by and I don't let her out until she does one or she sits down and cries (which is her way of telling me that she doesn't want to do a poo) - if she does get let out of the litter box, I watch her or I call her to come to me and that way I can keep an eye on her so if she stoops, I pick her up immediately and place her into the box. I find this to be about 98% effective (I sometimes don't catch her in time and when I am taking her to the box, she can't hold on anymore) also, Cookie likes to have privacy so that is why I have the toy box as it has tall sides - she will on the odd occasion poo behind things or under them. I hope this helps :) |
I have noticed a couple of trends with 'Tini. First, she always pees on her pee pads. If her pee pads have too much pee on them, she will not poo on them. Also, she knows she is supposed to poo on the pads, but if she thinks I am not paying enough attention to her or I scolded her for bad behavior, she will poo in the living room. So, I try to make sure to change her pad at least once a day and then look for signs she is going to poop. Then I run her right to the pad. Knock on wood we are on a 3 day streak of pee and poo all on the pad. Not holding my breath......it sure is a challenge with Yorkies....but I knew this would be difficult from researching the breed. |
Gucci doesn't poo and pee pad on the same pad. Is weird but she poos on a pad behind the TV and pees on a pad on the bathroom. She has being having some accidents lately thou. I think she is being lazy lately. She has being pooping or peeing on the floor on my hubbys side of the bed. Maybe she is telling daddy something, . Good luck with poo training. Don't forget be Patience and consistent. |
I am so fortunate to have grass. I tried the pads, but Maggie thought they were disposable blankies. Wish she would use a pad, especially when it rains, or in the middle of the night. I suppose there are draw backs with both methods of training. Some don't have to get up in the middle of the night and I don't have to clean up the pad that Maggie is tearing up. |
Speaking of pads, Cooks rips hers up too as she is fond of having tissue paper in her mouth and will destroy a TP roll. She looks funny though as she runs away from me when she has a half eaten TP roll in her teeth. Also, she loves to tear the labels off plastic drink bottles - she just has a fascination with paper products. She also (and this is a bit embarrassing) fond of stealing my daughters panties  - especially when they are in the dirty laundry basket - I think she just likes the chase :animal-sm |
I have also been using the simple solutions spray outside and that stuff most definitely works for pee. She is still pooing in her crate but after a couple of days she pees outside when she smells the spray. |
Its so good to hear people going through the same thing. Penny will pee on her pad but has never pooped on it. She usually poops in the same room and I have tried putting a pad in there, but she goes in different spots and I have moved the pad all over. I have found she will poop outside before she will pee, but I have to walk her all over the place. I would rather have her pee outside, because she doesn't always use the pad and pees in all different place. I use Woolite pet stain and odor remover. It has a really nice smell to it and works well. I hope someone will comes up with a good solution for potty training. I have tried everything. Does anyone watch the Dog Whisper on NGC? Cesar is his name and I would love for him to come to my house. He is amazing at training dogs. :( |
Maximus has begun pooping 3-4 times a day...and he is pooping on the pad then continuing onto the floor for a little more then another spot for a little more...it\';s like he can\'t get it all out at once :(..he is slowly driving me insane..lol...I have nightmares of POO!!!!Can the whisperer visit me as well???lol |
Penny, if you can be at home, the outside method works very well. Every hour during the day, and every two hours at night. Always on a leash, so they don\'t think it\'s playtime outside. Small treat when they go back into the house, but no treat or praise at night time trips. Night time trips are to be strictly business and back in very quickly. Have them sleep in their crates at night, beside your bed. Maggie is now 4 months old and housebroken. She now rings a bell that is hanging on the door knob, when she needs to go potty. It was not an easy job for two solid months, but if you don\'t slack off, you will have a potty trained baby in no time. Good Luck. |
I\'m happy that I found this thread. I was getting desperate and also bought a training book. I\'ll see what happens now with using the seperate pads hopefully it eventually works. Please post any success stories. |
