The Licker! Okay, here's a question. I've nicknamed my Tobie "The Licker" because he licks me like crazy. When I get out of the shower and put lotion on and sit down, he licks the exposed parts (ie: ankles, arms, legs) I know he licks for affection, but at some point he's got to stop. Anybody else that has a chronic licker with advise on getting them to stop licking so much. I like the affection, but don't want my face dripping with puppy slobber! Tobie's mommy:animal36 |
I know they do love lotion. Cats do too. I could never figure out why. I would think it would taste all perfume-y...yuk. |
Wrigley does the same thing! She's a licker in general, but if there is lotion involved, even more so. Crosley isn't a licker at all, but depending on the lotion, she might get interested. I'm not sure how you break them though, I guess it doesn't really bother me. |
My kids lick when I get out of the shower or when I put lotion on. They are on a full-fledged top priority mission to remove the evil smelly stuff from their mom! |
princess is like that too.. i just tell her "NO" when it gets annoying  and she stops.. |
Me too Izzy does the same thing. He will lick my hand, arm to death if I let him. When I take off shoes or socks he is right there trying to lick or sniff my feet...that is when you realize that they are just that A DOG! :p I just tell him no and he stops. |
lexi is standing there when i get out of the shower licking the water off me legs.. |
We never had the licking issue with Josie. I mean she gives "kisses" but, not over whelming. Then, we have Jojo...I have actually timed him, he can go licking 10 minutes with out stopping.....10 minutes! I love him but not the licking, for that long. He's only 4 mths old so, I'm hoping he'll grow out of it. |
My Boston is an obsesive licker. We say that Tank (yorkie) gives kisses out of love and Buckeye (boston) is just obsessed. I think it's my fault though 'cause when he was a baby anytime he'd lick I'd say "good kisses!!" and ever since he's been obsessive! He's a year old and doesn't stop so I think once a licker always a licker. |

He sounds just like my Bichon, who we call "SirLickalot". He never grew out of it. (He is almost 13 and still does it) He will stop when I say no lick, but then he is back at it within minutes. You might want to try to curb the behavior now, or you'll have a SirLickalot on your hands too lol |
My Jewels is an extreme licker. She will lick your face untill finally you push her off of you. Then she will lick your hand |
My little boy is definitely a chronic licker as well. It's so cute I just don't have the heart to try and stop him. :) |
I've got a licker too. Both water after I shower and while I'm putting lotion on too. |
I've got a chronic licker too. Not only does he obsessively lick me, but Kiba will obsessively lick the blanket he is laying on, the bed, the couch--whatever it may be, he licks it until it's soaked! I don't know what to do about this habit. The funny thing is, he's not as interested in licking the water off my feet after a shower--but Tifa is! :animal36 |
Tucker is a licker. He loves lotion, but it's not a requirement. I ask him where he got his licker license. Get it? Licker/liquor! ha ha ha But seriously now... it kinda gets on my nerves, so I let him get a few in and then I complain. He usually stops. Teresa |

He will just sit there and let the cat do his thing.........lol :) |
That's too cute!! The cat and yorkie pic!!! hahah my Missy is definitely a licker... especially after the shower!! i'm putting on cocoa butter, and she licks it up... i was worried about the cocoa butter because chocolate is made from cocoa...but maybe it's only the caffine in chocolate?? If anyone knows, if cocoa butter is dangerous, please let me know!! Otherwise, i'll be seeing the vet anyway today and i'll ask. |

Logan is really bad. He likes to old you down & lick & lick your face. He's stands on your hair so you can't get away. He recent fascination is licking my pillow in the morning. It's gross, so I tell him to stop & he quite for a while. My mom's old weimeriener used to suck a blanket. she had an old comforter that she used to carry around & sucked until is was just sopping wet. I'm being to wonder if it's like an oral fixation in people. Per Freud (not that I think he knows anything), people that chew pens or smoke do it because they weren't breast fed long enough. My logan came to me very young, so maybe that's the reason. |
Both of my girls are lickers....Bailey will lick you and you tell her no,and she will start licking the air...it is like she has no control..lol..Angel licks all the time and I am trying to break that habit at bedtime because she licks my face with lotion on it..it can't be that good for her. My legs are fair game when I am getting out of the shower, one on each leg...it drives my hubby crazy! |
Molly is a licker too. I love it when she sits on my lap and licks my hand so sweetly, but my DIL (I live my my DS and DIL because I'm disabled) just hates her doing it to me. I try not to let her see. She thnks I've spoiled Molly so badly and thinks that pretty much not letting Molly do anything she likes is the only cure for her. Kathy |

I got a feeling now that my Coffee licks my feet when he wants to go pee so i can take him out. anyone's yorkie does that? or am i imaging things? |
LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one! Kaya will lick people forever! I'm trying to teach her "NO LICK", but it isn't working too well. Tinka licks but mostly in the morning when she wants me to get up. Little Brea likes to lick the cats face.:D |
I heard that they lick you when you get out of the shower cos you smell different and they want to be sure it's you - given how we use soap and perfume and lotion which all has different smells it must be quite confusing for them! They say dogs use their sense of smell way more than their sense of sight. As for chronic licking - and holding down and licking - it can be a sign of dominance. It certainly is with Evil Wee - she holds poor DOugal down and FORCES him to accept lots of lickings - even tho he doesn't really want to. My two are allowed to lick me when I say "kisses" then they have to stop when I say. If Dixie doesn't back down she gets pushed off my lap. They both try it on all the time tho! When I'm in a tricky yoga position or in the middle of a swiss ball workout - oh look mummy's got her head close to the ground and her arms are otherwise occupied - I'm going in for the sneaky-lick! LOL! They're such characters! |
Just let him do it that is sweet He loves his momma! Just not too much lotion that can't be good for him. |
