ringing the bells i just trained lexi to ring the bells... well instead of bells, im using wind chimes that work even better, all she has to do it touch it and it rings. i did buy the bells , but it didnt work that good, it wasnt loud enough. so i rigged up a small wind chime on a black shoelace and it dangles from the door knob.. i tell her lexi go ring the bells and she goes over there and pushing her snott against the chimes... wow went through lots of treats for this one... so now i have to associate the chimes with go potty outside. so now before i open the door, i say to her. lexi ring the bells go potty outside and she does and we go outside... shes so smart |
haha I can just picture Lexi dancing to that dance mix song called Ring My Belllllllllllllllll!! :D |
you are such a smart cookie...now make momma proud! |
Oh, I am so happy to read your thread. We have a bell at our back door and Maggie is finally using it. The only problem is if we are not in the kitchen, she doesn't know how to come get us yet. She still can't hold it for long so by the time we get into the room, there is a puddle under the bell. I have to get a wind chime. Good idea!!! Thank you. |
thats why i figured i would change to the chimes.. you really cant hear the bells.... maggie is a smart little one huh??? lexi hasnt used it yet by herself, im just waiting for that day... |
I have been wanting to try this technique. I was actually just getting ready to go buy the stuff to make one for my knob. Hopefully I can get Rusty to ring his bell for potty and not just to ring it... |
Gina, the truth is Maggie is a mess! From day 1, she does what she wants when she wants to. She is not afraid of either my husband or I. If she weren't cute we would have killed the little monster already. We thought she never get it. Potty training her is really hard but we think she's got it. (Cross our fingers!) |

my b/f came up with a good idea also... he said we should get like a real bell and attach it to the inside of the door so when lexi has to go out to potty she rings the bell with her nose or paw.... something that is sensitive to the touch.. like a ding dong bell... that would be real cool.... i have to figure that one out though |
or even something that buzzes.. |

ok, lets us know when you have a brain storm |
That is such a cute idea. I am sure Lexi will be ringing those chimes all day once she understands it will get her OUTSIDE:D Carol & Buddy:aimeeyork |
Maggie already figured that one out. She likes to chase the birds so she'll ring the bell when she wants to go play. |
i really dont think lexi will ring it that much... dont think she has it in her for some reason....i hope im wrong |
You are so lucky to have such a good girl, Gina. My Maggie is really naughty. |
oh oh oh... believe me, lexi is naughty too when she wants to be.... sometimes i just want to strangle her... sometimes she so smart, but other times i feel like she doesnt listen therfore i think she stupid..... |
You know, it might be the girl factor. Both Maggie and Lexi are pretending to be a dumb blond to get what they want. I thought Maggie was a dingy until she gets creative. |
im so sure maggie is smart as a whip..... you just gotta keep on them... and keep teaching them and let their little brain work..... as a matter of fact, the more ive been training lexi these few days, i just realized shes more tired at night than usual.. her brain is actually working... tonight we do more of it |
That is so cool, i have wanted to try this with Pippa but have never got round to it. But as she barks at me to go out or come in its not too bad, but it sure would be cuter to get her to ring the bells. |
Lexi is smart AND good looking! You can't beat that combination! Nice job. |
Only time Venus will ring the bell is if I tell her to. She's done it so few times without me coaxing her. If I'm in that room and she wants to go out, she'll ring it. But I'm rarely in that room. And its the only door I let them out, as it goes to the fenced area for them. I've had the bells up since I believe November. |

I'm hoping she'll ring on her own soon. She's 100% potty trained goes outside morning and evening but she won't let me know she needs to go out. We just take her out every day same time. When we're not home to take her out she goes on pee pads in bathroom. I guess I should be thankful she doesn't go everywhere inside house LOL :D |
