Im ready to cry...Pls Help

This is my problem....Daisy turned 1 in July. I crate trained her or so I thought. She was doing great when leaving her out for a few hours at a time free to roam. My dad comes twice a day to let her out once at 11:30 then again at 2:30. I come home at 5 so she's not out all that long. If she had an accident it was always on the bathroom rug, not a problem because I can wash the rug. So I then decided to put a wee wee pad down in place of the rug she would potty on that if she couldnt hold it. She's been out of a crate for probably 4/5 months. She sleeps on the couch, or her bed in the living room (I give her run of the downstairs because the kitchen is tile and the dining room, foyer are hardwood floor, carpet only in the living room). The other day I was out for a few hours and didnt think I needed to stop in as I had the wee wee pad down in the bathroom...well was i wrong I came home to pee on my reclining chair..VERY upset I cleaned it up told her she was bad, then made her go outside. Tonight while my fiance was home she pee'd on the couch!!!! Now I'm extremely pissed I dont even want to look at her, she doesnt have a problem going to the door and barking to go out. I now have to dig her crate out and keep her in it during the day and when we go out I guess. I didnt really want to do that but I have no choice I cant have my furniture ruined. Does anyone know why she would be spiteful and do this? Is it wrong to put her back in the crate?

I don't believe sheis doing it for spite. I don't believe dogs think that way. She evidently doesnt realize that she shouldn't pee on the furniture.

Another thing is she might have a bladder infection and is losing control and she can't help it.

I would definitely get it checked before I scolded her for something she can't control. Punishing a dog after the fact does no good what so ever.

More likely is that the weather has gotten colder and/or wetter and she doesn't like to go outside. Although, as Jeanie mentioned, making sure that she doesn't have a bladder infection would be prudent.

The best thing would be to go back to the basics. Keep her contained in rooms (or a crate) where she can't do much damage when you can't supervise her - like the kitchen or laundry room. When you are there, take her out frequently and reward her heavily (with praise and treats) for pottying appropriately. If you catch her in the act of pottying wrong, interrupt with a sharp "no" and rush her to the appropriate spot. If you find accidents after they've happened, there is nothing you can do but clean them up - preferably with an enzymatic cleaner from the petstore that will remove the odor.

PS. Oh, and by the way, if she hasn't been trained to use a pee pad, replacing the bathroom rug with the pee pad may be your problem. You've taken away her indoor potty spot. I realize having her pee on the rug isn't ideal, but you might see if putting the rug back in the bathroom takes care of your problem.

She is not being spiteful at all. Dogs pee when they get excited. All mine do. They jump at the baby gate when they see me getting their food ready or when I come home and pee. They can't help it so please don't be so hard on your baby.

I really dont believe she has an infection. It seems to be out of spite. She was fine on going on the pee pee pad if she really couldnt hold until one of us got home. She knows she's done bad because she sits and put her ears down. She doesnt get excited and pees, she does it even if we're home. I think I will go back to using the crate and see what happens, she never had an accident in the crate. If she was going on the bathroom rug, that's ok because I can throw it in the washer, but i will not have it on my furniture. I will be getting her crate back out tonight and start her back in tomorrow. I feel bad doing it because she's been free to roam for a few months now. I know she doesnt mind it, but i do

lexi did and stil does the same thing and she is over 1 years old.. i dont
crate her anymore, i just clean the mess and what i did do is , i put something
over the area. like a box or something big so she wont go there for awhile.

There is nothing wrong with keeping her in the crate when you leave if that has worked in the past. Why do you feel bad putting her in the crate if it has worked so well in the past? Is the crate really small? If she has never pottied in her crate before, maybe you can get her a bigger crate and put a nice bed and soft blanket in there. I do that for my little girl and she actually LOVES her crate.

I would guess that she is just very confused where exactly she is supposed to go to the bathroom when you are not home and she obviously cannot hold it that long. She is also probably confused about the whole pee pad situation. I would crate her when you leave her at home, still have your dad come let her out twice a day, and just stick with the outside training strictly. I would not add pee pads to the mix. That can be very confusing.

I'm wondering if the wee wee pad thing screwed her up. She went on it a few times. I put it right where the rug was, but maybe i confused her she sleeps in a playpen at night and is fine with it. she likes her crate so thats what i will do and see if that works for a few months and take the wee wee pads off the floor for good.

She isn't doing it out of spite. Scolding her when you get home won't help because she doesn't understand why she is in trouble unless you actually CATCH her peeing and interrupt her.

I agree that it could be the weather. Loki's first winter (last year) brought a few accidents by the door or in the living room. He just didn't want to go out. He also really wasn't ready to be unsupervised or have as much freedom as we gave him, so we also went back to crate training. This year we haven't had a single problem even with the icky weather. He's 2 now and hasn't had an accident in over 6 months. (We also went through some UTI's so it's best to rule that out. Just take a sample to the vet, no need for a visit.)

I think bringing the crate back out will help. She probably isn't ready to roam yet. Maybe crate her in the morning but have dad let her out at 2:30 until you get home at 5. Our neighbors did that - they would crate in the morning and then let the pup roam from lunchtime on. Or maybe she'd do better being free in the morning. We ALWAYS crate Loki when he is home alone, but he also isn't left alone during the day every day either.

As for the time she peed on the couch - maybe she DID go to the door and bark like usual but no one was home to let her out?

I would skip the pee-pad completely if she is trained to go outside. Those breaks seem like they are sufficient. You don't want her to start thinking it's OK to pee in the house.

That sounds like a good plan. The wee wee pads probably just confused her.

I put together her crate last night and this morning when my fiance left for work she was already sitting in there. So we shall see how it goes.
