Potty free Solution Hello yorkie lovers!! :p I havent posted before, but I have read the threads (which have been useful by the way) anyhow.. I have a huge potty problem, my yorkie has potty-ed EVERYWHERE.. I have scrubbed all the spots away, I even bought a $375.00 steam cleaner.. in hopes the pee smell will be gone and he will stop. I caught him going again  .. my husband and I fight alot because he insists on punishing him and spanking him. My question is.. is there a solution that really works that will keep Sammy from peeing? I am scared my husband will want to get rid of him PLS HELP!!! :( |
First of all, how old is your baby? You should really confine him to a small area with puppy pads/newspaper until he understand where's he's suppose to go...kitchen, bathroom. Try that first. It can be VERY frustrating for everyone especially your little baby who is new and probably just as confused as you are. Also, take him out frequently...every 1-2 hours and praise him for going potty outside. Good luck! |
How old is your little guy? Is he neutered yet? May be you could try a belly band while he is inside. Do you think is marking? |
I'm not sure how to potty train because my little goober still isn't 100% potty trrained yet. But, I found a solution to get rid of the smell by looking through some old posts here! It was shared with us my our member rosenberry. As everyone who's tried it has said that it works pretty well to get out the pee-pee smell! I hope it works for you if you decide to try it! I thought I'd post this for everyone,,, I worked great,,, on cat urine spots I had,,, Thought it would be worth a shot for you with Puppy spots... 1. bottle hydrogen peroxide (normal size) 2. teaspoon dawn dish soap 3. tablespoon baking soda And if you figure out a way to train them easy, please let us in on it! :p |
Don't have the time I am currently working two jobs and my Benni who prior to his OD and hospitalization was 100% trained had a relapse. I don't have the time to mix and measure and I rent so I needed something quick, easy and that works. In petsmart I found a product that has no overpowering cleaner smell, works wonderfully and removes everything! I even had an old ink stain on my sand colored carpet that was MONTHS old and that I had tried everything on and no luck. this product is called GET SERIOUS EXTRACTOR What I like about it is you just drizzle it on the stain, swish the solution through the stain with a small scrub brush and place a clean towel or cloth on top of it. Wait a few minutes, remove the cloth and stain and STAIN and SMELL is gone! I had a very good blazer that I had taken to three cleaners, washed twice and then placed it in water and this stuff, the blazer is better than new. I swear by this stuff, it can be found online also and is about the same price with the shipping as it is at Petsmart. I swear by this stuff, never missed with it. |
Natures Miracle is supposed to work great for smells. Its at petsmart. I use it on everything pee, throwup, stains. ect |
Definately try the hydrogen peroxide mixture it is a wonder solution,, I noticed the banners that changes at the top of YT, there was an ad for a odor solution,,, and for 4.99 they will send it to you,, it said Household item remedy... It is the same thing,,,and they are getting 4.99 a shot,,, HA and Im giving it away! :D Try it first,, you will be surprised,,, doesnt get much cheaper than peroxide, dish soap and baking soda... try it! |
Do you pour and saturate the area that smells of pee, or do you put the mixture in a spray bottle and just mist the area????? My hallway is starting to smell really bad. |

it doesn't ruin the carpet? do you know how many oz is in a normal size bottle of hydrogen peroxide? i asking b/c we have the huge bottle at home and i didn't want to use to much. |
I used that hydrogen peroxide solution and I have really dark blue carpet and it didn't hurt it at all. I put about 12 oz. aprox. and then mixed with the rest. I don't the exact measurement...i didn't have a full bottle so i just winged it. It worked pretty well...i have done it a couple of times. Good luck! |

Nature's Miracle Have you tried Nature's Miracle? Everyone that has recommended it to us SWEARS by it -- the vet, the pet store, fellow dog owners! It gets rid of pee and poop odors and also eliminates the scent so puppy won't go in the same spot. You can use it on hardwood floors and carpet. If you're using it on carpets/rugs, test it first and if using on hardwood floors, spray it on and wipe it off right away b/c the floor will absorb it if you let it sit. It comes in spray and larger bottles and it doesn't stink! (I first heard about it through friends that own a Newfoundland -- he had lots of accidents on their carpet and you could never smell a thing when you went to their house!) Good luck and keep us posted! :) Mojito & Irmi |
I think Natures Miracle is a God send but I have also used the peroxide method and it works so its all in the preference of the person. I am lucky, i have mostly hard woods throughout my house so only one room with carpet to worry about and that is my craft room. But occasionally (since Memphis still has an oops once in awhile) i walk around the house with the natures miracle in a spray bottle and mist the floors in case there was a spot that I didn't clean well enough and there is still an odor that he can detect. |
I swear you ladies give better advice then the vet! :) I guess the ones whom go through the issues know better then the ones who just read about it... Thanks a million. Lillysmom I will def try the belly band!!! To all ****HUGS**** :p Brandi WELCOME to YorkieTalk! This site is the best!!! :D |
I have to check that Nature's Miracle stuff out. Stewie tries to potty #2 in the bathroom too much now. I bet he can still hear it despite my use of bleach. |
4 Attachment(s) Welcome to YT. Our little Maggie is 10 weeks old. We started out crate training her. Had her area choked down in her crate to where she had enough room to lie down or turn around. After about three nights, she was sleeping all night. We were so impressed for such a young baby. Well, one day I decided to wash her blankies. They were wet. That little Pee Pot was weeing in her crate. I now leave her crate door open and put a wee pad on the kitchen floor. She really does sleep all night now and the wee pad is always dry in the morning. We have her on a very strict schedule, until we get her housetrained. She if fed 4 times a day. Morning, lunch, dinner and a light snack before bedtime. She get her Nutrical in the morning and before bedtime. She gets to go pee outside in the morning before I get to. We take her outside every two hours, after she eats, upon waking and after playtime. She has caught on very quickly. Still not to be trusted all the way. Sometimes she forgets that she is playing on carpet and not the grass. She can squat super fast. We pick up her food at night. She goes to bed at 8:30 and up at 6am. Knock on wood if we can keep up with this. She is living with two retired parents. Been a long time since we had a baby in the house. Even getting down on the floor to play isn't as easy as it once was. Good luck with your baby. |
We walk our yorkies 3 or 4 times a day. My youngest will hold her business until we come back in and slip off and do it in the house. I've tried keeping her in the kennel but that hasn't work. Help!!!! |
I'm no pro at housetraining by a long shot, but learning quickly. Sounds like maybe you need to confine your youngest one in an area that has tile. I purchased the Wizdog from www.wizdog.com I only use it when it's pouring down rain. Maggie doesn't mind it at all. So far, so good. |
What is Wizdog |
I just sprayed my entire house with this mixture and already notice that there isn't a smell at all. :) Thanks everyone for the suggestion. |
Wizdog bstroud, the wizdog is a tray with a grid on top. Under the grid is where you would put some newspaper or wee pad. They use it just like using newspaper or wee pads on the floor, except they don't get their feet in it and they can't chew up the newspapers. When they poo on it, the poo it on top of the grid. Just pick up the grid, dump off the poo and you are all set for the next wee, or poo. Maggie sometimes misses getting completely squared on her wee pad and the tinkle runs across the kitchen floor, then she steps in it. She never misses getting positioned just right on the wizdog. Here is the site again, if you want to check into it. www.wizdog.com |
Hey I just checked out that wizdog thing and it seems pretty neat.... I might have to get one when I get a yorkie. Memphis uses pee pads when we travel but he goes out to potty outside when we are home (usually ;) ) Your baby is very cute Stitches |
Reconsmama, What kind of baby do you have? Thank you for the compliment. People that see her say that she doesn't look real. She has the cutest baby doll face I have ever seen. Of course I may be bias, since I'm the Mama. |

LOL!! Me too! For the peroxide mixture- this may be a stupid question, but does it have to be Dawn brand soap? |
Yes it has to be the original blue dawn soap or it doesn\'t work as well. |
I used Palmolive and it seemed to work! |
I used "The Solution" and it seems to work... however I used the Ajax antibacterial dish soap... and waahlah! Pee free carpet... now I gots to worry about the poo... |
