how does your yorkie signal when she/he has to go potty? I have been having success with my yorkie going potty outside, but it's only because I take her out every few hours. How did you teach your dog to signal to you that he/she needs to go outside? Mine doesn't do it yet. I'm almost afraid to just wait and see because she might start going on the floor again. My boyfriend tried with his dog to use a bell attached near the door, but his dog just rings it whenever he wants to play outside so he removed it. |
Poochie bells. You have to be patient with puppies and let them go through a short stage where they will ring, ring, ring it. But if mine wants outside just to play, that's alright. I know she likes the nice weather and enjoys being outside. She doesn't ring it except when she wants to go out to play or to go potty now.:) |
we use the bells and Chance is very consistent with using the bells and going out to potty. He has his days though when he wants to ring the bells every three mins. But that is few and far between and when he does that I know that he has already gone potty and I just ignore him or redirect his attention to something else. The bells work good for us. And not our older boy Remmy uses them sometimes as well when he really needs to go! |
hehe...she doesn't...she just goes on her pad if I don't take her in time. I tried the bell too & it didn't work for me either. |
Ringing a bell works great for us, but then I don't mind letting Joey out "just to play". |

I have to take her out at all times b/c i can't tell if she want to play or potty. My problem; if your are not in the same room with her, there's no way of knowing that she is sitting awaiting to be let out:mad: . She will not bark to alert you that she is at the door. Coco is always in eye sight at home to enforce the housetraining.:animal-pa |
We just built an outdoor area for Jaxon and hoping he'll really get the poochie bells now. He also had to be 'reminded' before but it wasn't an ideal set up. He's always been a little too polite about asking to go out. |
Rocky barks to get our attention, then when we get up he runs to the door, but keeps looking back at us to make sure we follow him. |

I have the same issue, I have started crate training Oliver for a few days now and it has really cut down on our stress level. I felt really bad leaving him in the crate (i work from home) but the Vet assured me that he would not feel abandoned. That it is like a den for them. I do have the problem of when i let him out of the crate for his 100% supervised play time, he will sometimes pee right on the carpet and that is kinda frustrating cause I only take him out like what feels like all day, lol. I can't tell when he wants to go out too much yet. We keep him on the couch with us, chewing his bone and when he wants off the couch, he whines and whines so we know it is either water or he wants out. So we usually take him out for good measure. Just in case. I wish I could tell when he wants to too. |

I used to use the bells attached to the door but My Tiffany quickly picked up that she goes outside and comes back in she gets a cookie. So, she was ringing the bell to go outside, I would let her out. She would walk to the end of the deck, sit there for a few minutes and then turn around and come back inside. Then she would demand her cookie, she followed me around the house barking her head off for her cookie. Funny, I can train dogs, Im pretty good at it but... I cannot train my own dogs they have me trained lol |
