Litterbox Vs. Pads?? I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on which one seems to work better! I personally like the sound of the litter box????:confused: |

I use the wee wee pads, using the litterbox for Lady wasn't an option since I have a cat that uses one...I think it would be way too confusing for them if there were two.....The wee wee pads work great and very easy clean-up |
I like the idea of using a pee pad inside a litter box with a doorway cut for the small ones (and sharp edges taped with electrical tape) because then they can differentiate between rugs and potty pads. It also helps with those that think they only have to have one foot on the pad, but the pee is on the carpet. Using actual litter to me sounds like a bad idea. For one it is going to be tracked throughout your house. If eaten, which pups tend to do, will cause intestinal obstruction. |

I use pads in a dog litterbox. This gives you the convenience of a pad (easier to clean) plus in gives you the boundaries of a litterbox (so they dog pee half in the pad half in the floor. |
Pee pads are portable, the litter box is not so easy to haul around. I tried the pee pad holder, but Gracie thinks that it is a platform on which to sleep or play with her toys. Without the holder, she messes up the pee pads royally. She loves to cover herself and her toys with them. I have thought of taping the edges of the pee pads to the vinyl liner in her x-pen. |
It depends what is easier for you. I use a litter box because once a pad is used once it stinks and is extremely unsightly. |
I use the pee pads in the litter box. AprilLove does fine with it. She is also learning to go outside and will go on pads only when we are at someone elses house. I have found (so far) the best pads at containing the smell to be the Arm and Hammer ones. MaryKay |
We've used a litter box with paper litter pellets (Purina). We've had nothing but good luck. It's not been messy (like cat litter which sticks in the cat's pads and ends up everywhere), doesn't stink, and is very reasonably priced. We usually know about when she's going to go and clean the solid waste out afterward, then change the litter every other day. We recently opened our second 25 lb bag, the first one lasted almost 3 months. Make the choice that seems best for your dog's success, they are all a little different. |
I tried the litter box and my dogs basically laughed at me. They ate the litter like it was candy. So I took it out and put a pee pad in it they slept in it! I put the pee pads on the floor now and they use them there. As for the litter box i took everything out of it, and put a pillow and a blanket in it and now its a bed. Its actually Tiffany's FAVORITE bed |
pads in box for those who use litterbox with pee pad, do you find that they still get confused with bathroom matts...etc. I switched to litter box to give him a sure place that is different looking but I have the fake grass in it. Problem with that...the smell. Even the new one I bought without the attractant...it retains a smell. I hate to change our potty system for the millionth time but I'm thinking of going to newspaper with the cross stitch plastic on top (like a crate). That is what I use under the grass. I've spent SO much money. Ugh suzie |
How do you clean the fake grass? You could try adding baking soda (a very large tub at Sam's is only $4.00) on the bottom. Baking soda works wonders at absorbing odors. Then put newspapers under the grass to absorb the wetness and then just change the newspapers.. |
