Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how I can learn to start training Rylee for AKC events. I thought it would be fun to atleast train her, even if I never have her compete. I would love to atleast read about it, and try it a little.

What do you have in mind? Conformation, obedience, agility, tracking, etc...

I'm not sure, that's what I'd like to research. I don't even know if Rylee would be qualified. But, I'd love for her to be trained in any of those categories. I'd really like to learn how to get involved and educated. If not for Rylee, then maybe the next Yorkie (shhhh, don't tell my husband). Any ideas?

You can go to AKC website and find information of all the competitive event they have to offer. www.akc.org

To get started, I would recommend finding a good dog club or training school. In some case the dog club is the training school. A good thing to start off learning is obedience.

Then afterward it really depends on you and what you want to do. There are other organization that hold dog events as well like USDAA-agility and NAFA-flyball.

Thank I have been looking into it to, yeah moose is only 4 months but I am very interested in Agility and obedience. I have to admit showdogs moms and dads have made me more interested

Lil Bear enjoys agility, but she does it for fun when our humane society has their pet expo, but unfortuantly lil bear isn't very obediant, yeap she's spoiled and since she has become so attached to my mom and since she is their dog I didn't look into it too much, but I want moose to be involved. Plus I need to meet people, hey I'm 27 and on yorkie talk on a sat night, I think I need a bit of a life

With Sheila I'm going to do agility as she'll be fixed so she can't do conformation. We start with clicker training in a few weeks which is the pre rec for agility with the local clubs. Not sure how well she'll do because she is so small, but I just want her to have fun

You'd be surprised. Being small isn't always such a disadvantage. Yes, it does mean more time on the seesaw and more effort over the jumps, but a small dog can turn more tightly and be more effishant on course, saving time and effort that way.

BTW my article on agility was published in this months issue of The Yorkshire Terrier Magazine. There are photos this month of MACH 4 Desi (who came in 2nd in the AKC NATIONALS THIS YEAR!), Mach Hurrican Harley and My Mr. Cinnamon Bun (OA, AXJ, NAC, TBAD, CGC, IQI&II). Tried scanning it but unfortunatly my scanner dosn't seem to like the magazine!

If you want to learn more about agility, I'd did my best to provide an overview in that article. Also will be posting more info on the mightymite website in the near future as well as an "interview" with Desi!
