I CAN'T get rid of her and i've tried everything! Please HELP!
 

My baby was 4 months old yesterday and i've had her since she was 8 weeks old. We have big dogs that live around this area so i can't train her outside... i've been on potty pads since we've had her and i found that she won't go on hard wood floor when she can go on something softer. so i put the peepads in our sunroom which is hard wood floor and she used then for a while then quit... and now she only potties in the room but not on the pads and my dad hates it... he loves her but this is a new house and he can't have her potting on the floor ... if i can't find something he said we might have to find someone to take her... and I JUST CAN'T DO THAT!!! i love her tooooo much... Please Help Me!!! I'm BEGGING YOU!!

Are you praising her when she goes on the pads or even giving her treats after she goes? This is really important. Can you take her outside with the leash on to a grassy spot? Are the big dogs on leashes or are they loose?

did you try a newspaper...bc its dirty it smells kinda like the street i guess and she might go on it..put a wee wee pad or wateva under the newspaper so it will absorb it if it goes through..also try with out the pad under...and dont forget to praise her when she goes on it...good luck i hope things work out for you

Yorkies are one of the most difficult dog breeds to house train. Tucker is over a year and still not fully house broken. Here's what I suggest, get an x-pen. set it up in one room, and put her pee pads in it. When she's out of the x-pen, dont' let her out of your sight. if she starts to go somewhere other than the pad, say "No" firmly and put her down on the pad until she goes. then PRAISE LIKE CRAZY!! :goodluck:

I know some folks who use a small rug (that can be washed), or a towel as the pee pad and that works for them. If she was using the pee pads, perhaps try an inexpensive rug???

Yeah i praise her every time and i've tried about 5 different treats and i can't find one she really really likes... do you know any really good treats that most yorkies like?

Have you tried Snausages? They're like crack for Tucker lol. he goes crazy every time I take the bag out.

Not to me a downer, but my little Britney took over a year before she was completely housebreaken. Your puppy is only 4 months old and could have a long way to go.

She is only 4 months old. It's not fair to expect her to be potty trained so soon. Give her a little time ... things will work out. I would not expect any dog to be potty trained until at least 1 year old. Just keep working with her and praising her when she goes in the right place. Good luck. :p

there is this one sunflower rug that if it's down she always potties on it... and i've washed it about 2 times because of her peeing on it.. .maybe i should use that... Thank you

yorkies pretty much don't have the capacity to be potty trained until
AT LEAST 5 months
as any yorkie book will tell you

When Tila was 5 months
and we knew she was able to on the paper
and she often would
but also too often not
we were finally fed up, got really mad
put her in the crate outside
(she isn't crate trained, and we barely use it)

they say discipling that harshly is bad
but she's been a LOT better ever since
but not perfect
(she's now almost 8 months, wow time flies)

My girls are now 7 and 13 months...they are 99% trained, but I put pads in every room until a month ago. These girls are the best at training I have ever had in 35 yrs...but my house was covered in pads for a long time...now they are so used to pads and they look for them..even scratch at the bedroom door if it is shut to go in the pee room!

Put out more pads and be patient..it takes about 6 to 12 months...why not put parlor pants on her when you can not watch her?

Cali trained real fast using the Jump Start pads at Petsmart. They are guaranteed to work. They are a little more expensive but I could not believe how fast she trained. All of my other puppies took until they were almost 8 months to be trained outside. Cali was the first one I pad trained and I don't know if I got lucky but I swera by the Jump Start Pads. Good luck

my morgan is 3 1/2 months old and i'm trying to housetrain her as well. I crate her and use and expen. When she is in the crate or in the expen she will not potty. she screams her head off until i take her outside to potty. This is good because she can actually hold it a long time, especially at night. Last night i put her to bed around 10ish and i didn't wake up and take her out until 11 this morning. over 12 hours she held it and didn't complain.

I do feel your pain though, becuase if she's out of the expen in my room and she has to pee she will do it on the rug and not let me know that she has to go, unless i see her looking for a spot. i've only had her a little over a week and i'm as confused as you are as to how i'm suppose to train her to let me know she has to potty outside when she has free roam.

Mine would do anything for Pupperoni. You can get them at any pet store.

I can hear you panicking and I understand your frustration but honestly, you are expecting too much of a dog that's only 4 month old. You wouldn't expect a baby to be potty trained at 6 month either, your father needs to understand that too. Please, I am not attacking you but I also feel that there is a misconception of people wanting a "puppy" and then not being able to deal with the consequences.

Okay, if you can and someone is home pretty much during the whole day you could try crate training. I didn't do it with mine but I know lot's of people, especially on this site, that had great success. If you put it in the search engine you should be able to find a lot of suggestions and tips. Again, I didn't do it because I work and couldn't keep him confined in such a small space for that long

I would recommend you taking her outside to do her business as often as possible and to only use the pee pad for peeing purposes and not for #2.

When you are not able to watch her (and you don't want to do the crate training) she should be confined in a small area, like a baby crib where there is place for just her bed on one side, and pee pad on the other side. I used the Nature's miracle pee pads from Petco. Supposedly they smell like grass- it worked well for us and I like that they are a little thicker. That way she get's used to going on the pad and if you then move her to an x-pen (no free roaming of house or room for a while without supervision) she will smell the pee pad and if she needs to go, she will go on the pad.

Consistency is key and like I said, she can't have a big, big area all for herself at that age. You should also buy a cleaning spray, such as Nature's Miracle, and make sure you clean the areas where she has gone so she can't smell the scent.

please have your husband read all of these post. he may be more patient with this. my muffie was 4 months and i hate to say this but the only way she was potty trained is when my best friends husband stuck her nose in it and rubbed it in her pee then put her outside.....she never did it again. and with kirby, my husband did placed his nose in it right a way and kirby was trained in 2 weeks. they say not to use this method but it worked for us and there was no bad outcome from it.

i saw a hydrant scent attractant at DrsFosterSmith.com to help them know where they are premitted to go potty at. there is also something called a pee post. I do not know if these things work but i am thnking on trying them

are you using the pads that are scented? You may have to lay more then 1 pad down. there is another optition you can try. if you have a crate, then you need to keep her in the crate and only bring her out to take her potty, then she goes right back in the crate. It should take a week but I would think she would get the hint! your 2nd optition is................. give her to me!!! :D

Until she is house trained, I would buy her a diaper, this way your dad won't be mad or have to worry about accidents until she is trained.

I have used all sorts of treats, they seem to like the good stuff the best. Such as freeze dried liver treats, or chicken breast turkey strips, just any treat that is all natural.

The fastest way and the most successful way, in my experience, is crate training. Start off in the morning by taking her out of her crate (you may want to pick her up to make sure she does not have an accident) and put her on the pad. Tell her "go potty" or another choice of phrase you want to use as a command. Don't let her get off of the pad until she pees. Give her about 5 to 10 minutes, if she does not go, put her back in the crate and try again in 10 minutes. Keep repeating this until she goes. Once she does go, praise her and reward her. As a bonus to seal the deal, let her play. So she gets that she has to go potty first in order to be let out of the crate to play. They will pick up on this real fast since they are eager to play or just be with you.

Start keeping track of her bathroom habits, how many times a day she goes, how many hours until she has to go, how many times she pees and poops. This will help you make a bathroom schedule and makes things soooo much easier.

For instance, Scampers goes to the bathroom 4 times a day, every 5 hours except at night when we are sleeping. He pees and poops both in the morning and at night and only pees the rest of the times. From this I know that I have to take Scampers out every 5 hours and that he has to pee and poo in the morning and at night in order to be let out to play. Remember, at four months, your puppy may not be able to hold it very long, so take her out as often as you can.

I have trained all my dogs even other's dogs, past and present, this way and it always works if you do it right. Good Luck with your training!!! :thumbup: :thumbup:

We trained Baby Blessing to use the pee pads, it is important when they are a puppy to confine them to one area and gradually as they get older let them about a bit more but always under the supervision of someone. We did this with Baby Blessing and she was easy to train. At four months that is too young to have freedom of the home, gradually let her have more space as she gets older. It is easier to potty train them, that is what we did. I hope you can get her trained, it takes a lot on our part to help them. After eating and drinking is when you should confine her to the pee pad within a play pen or what ever you choose, then put her back again after playing so she can go again, they really need to be shown continuously. I have one of those fire hydrants from Drs. Foster & Smith for Drake, and let me tell you....IT WORKS!!! He has been neutered since I got him at a VERY young age (12 weeks) and I was told he would never hike his leg to pee....YEAH RIGHT!! He hikes his leg every chance he gets, which is why he loves to go outside! I was having problems with him and the training, and I saw that hydrant and figured what the heck! My hubby and kids laughed at me, but I ordered it and when it came, I showed it to him, let him smell it and get acquainted with it and then set it in the middle of his pee pad and within 2 minutes, he walked right over, hiked up his leg and peed and has been ever since! It's hilarious and people always laugh, but hey...whatever works!

I don't know about a female though, but because of the "attractant" that's in it, it just might!

We did the same thing. We put the jump start pads down in a small section of the house (right by the back door) that was gated off for her. If she was not with us she did not have access to anywhere else. We kept the area small. As she got bigger she wanted more space. I would gradually add a room or section of the house to her roaming area. If she went potty where she was not allowed we went back to the smaller size. (I should note that she gace us signs that she wanted more space. We did the same thing with the back yard. We chicken fenced in a small area for her and gradually increased it until she had access to the whole yard.)

It didn't take her long to figure out what was going on. When she took ownership of her living area, she didbn't want to mess in it. At the same time we introduced outside potty to her. One day the pads diappeared and she barked at the door to go out. Wooo Hoo.

Katy is 1 year old now (July 1). I think it was around Christmas time since her last accident.

Not sure if you are interested in it, but you could litter box train her, too for when you are not around to take her out. They have litter boxes and litter for dogs.

My girls will do anything for Cheerios or a piece of bacon strips. - And praise her every time she does it right! Let your Dad in on it - he needs to praise her too. I kept mine right by the pee pads (with newspaper under it because they sweat on the floors down here). She'll get it. They are just smarter than most dogs and have to try everything else first to get their way. Good luck..

Is it possible at all to take her outside? We don't have a fence so I take Loki out on a leash. We do not use pads at all, he is totally outside trained. He is never outside off-leash. If you have a semi-secure area, maybe you could try taking her outside? Just a suggestion! :animal-pa

I'm no pro but I did manage to get my little guy potty trained at about 6 months.. which apparently is pretty good for yorkies. But from literally day one at 8wks old I crate trained and used and x-pen. When he wasn't in my direct sight he was in the x-pen with his pee pad. When he missed I cleaned up the mess with his pee pad and returned it where it was originally and that helped a lot. After a while he started going on the pee pads because that's where his mess was already. He just put two and two together and the rest was history and now we've got our own strict potty schedule. With time he began going potty outdoors under strict supervision and hasn't used or needed a pee pad ever since. I now work from 10-4 daily and Harley is in his x-pen from 9-4:20ish so that's 6 hours where he never goes potty and waits until I get home to take him out but he is now a year & 5 months. I spent nearly every waking moment with Harley until this past january when I started my job which is what I owe his good behavior to. Your baby is way too young to be expected to get the potty training down. If you read about the breed all info will tell you that they need to be atleast 5-6 months to be completely successful at holding their business. It's all about 'following through". You MUST MUST MUST keep a consistant pattern and schedule or your baby will never get it down. Keep your head up, Yorkies want to please and once they learn something it's there for life. Try to explain to your dad that he is only a baby and that he is not capable of learning so quickly. This is only a little step in the huge responsibility of bringing a puppy into your home. Also, you can walk your baby on a leash and if any dogs approach just snatch her up! Make sure to use a harness and not a collar though! Try to never lose your patience, be consistant, praise often, forgive quickly and scrub hard!:D Good luck! :thumbup:
