Early Riser Does anyone know of anything I can do to help my baby Cooper sleep in a little? He's only about 3 months old but he wakes me up at about 6:30 every morning, no matter how long I keep him up at night.. one more hour would be just amazing! Thanks! :) |
Good luck! Cali had been getting me up at 5A;30 but with the time change it's been 6:30 since i got her in August. She's on antibiotics right now and she has been sleeping in a little. She slept until 8:00 today. I hope this is a new trend |
henry gets up at 5:45 every morning...and he's about 8 months. when he had a cold and was on benadryl a couple months ago he slept in until 9. it was soooo nice. |
Loki has to get up early for a potty break, but once I let him out he comes back to bed. Also try doggie daycare. Loki sleeps for days after playing with the big dogs. |
thanks! i also tried closing all the blinds where his crate is -- he slept in an extra half hour with less sunlight! i should have thought of that sooner!! :D |
Tinka is almost 6 months and she still gets up early. She used to be up between 5 and 6. She has a crate in my bedroom (and one in the living room, and an exercise pen, etc....) anyways, she will whine really soft in the morning and some mornings I will tell her "No, be quiet." That sometimes bought me a bit extra sleep. As she is getting older, it's a bit better - usually between 6 and 7. This morning she slept in till almost 7 and the be quiet thing worked for 15 minutes more. It was wonderful. omega |
hmmmm good luck, lexi is over a year old and she gives me a wake up call at 6am everyday including weekends.... |
Cali is 15 weeks and I keep her in a krate on a chair beside my bed with a blanket on top. Last night we went to bed at 12 and she slept til 8 when I put her in her Xpen to go potty. Usually after she does both, Ill bring her on my bed and she'll sleep until I wake up..maybe I just got lucky, though :D |
She may need to go to the toilet when she wakes up. Do that and put her back for a bit. Try covering her crate with a sheet or blanket at night. She is little--it can be a puppy thing. As she gets older and gets more exercise during the day, walks etc, she may sleep in longer, especially in the winter when it's cold. Hang on in there! |
Last night during a bad storm I was desperate, like you, for a solution. So I took a towel and placed it over the front (not back) of Bebe's crate and then shortly afterwards she quieted down. Also, she didn't squeel at 6 am like she did before. |
Oliver sleep in the bathroom with his crate (not locked in it) and litterbox and food. (that's also where he goes when noone is home) He never whines or barks in there. (he does other times though... geez hehe) but he sleeps until I get him up. Mostly he'll sleep but sometimes he plays with his toys, but he won't whine unless he hears me up and not coming to see him. On weekends he goes to bed at 11:30ish and wakes up at 10ish. It's great. |
early riser Lillie has had a towel over her crate at night since day one and she sleeps in. She asks to go to bed between 9pm and 10 pm and sleeps till 7 or 8 am. This is with my husband getting up at 4:30am taking a shower and getting dressed in the same room. I have always kept her in our room at night as she barey whimpers to go potty when she is in there so I can hear her since she is close. I was afraid when my husband came back from a trip she would make me get up and take her out. She used to do that, right after he left she would want to go out. I guess she decided it was too early for her too. Mary |
I just got Angel last weekend. She's 5 months old and has been waking up around 7 a.m. every morning. She whines and then barks until I get up. When I go to her room, which is next to mine, I see she has pooed. Is she barking because she wants it cleaned up or is it because she's not tired anymore and wants attention? When I lean over to pick her up from her pen, she's really hyper. When she's in my arms, she's thrashing her body around cuz she's really excited. I have to hold on tight so she won't fall. After a while, she calms down. After I clean up the mess, I put her back in her pen and she'll continue whining and barking. I have to wash up and change so I have no choice. Should I just ignore her or should I say, "No, shhh, quiet..."? I have tried ignoring her and she continues on. She's good at bedtime and I've been able to sleep, but she's really bad in the morning with the noise and at other times during the day when she's in her pen. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks! |
Ticking Clock became a necessity too. |

I get up at the same time everyday, even weekends, to let Tootie go potty... after he goes out, I give him a chewie treat that he loves, and he lays with me until I get up.... d |
Have you tried putting Angel to bed in a crate. Lillie sleeps in a crate and does not use it for bathroom, thank goodness, I have had dogs that did. Now I am sure if I left her there all day she would but at night that is her bed. During the day she is downstairs blocked in the kitchen as she is not potty trained no matter how many times I take her out. I do cover the crate when it is bed time and she seems to understand, like I said before she get anxious when it is time for bed. Also she has just recently started to be calm when I hold her. She is not a lap dog, that is for sure. |
I forgot to say, Lillie has a stuffed dog and her blanket I made her in her bed (crate) and she has had it since the first night. Mary |
Kali is 12 wks old. She sleeps in a crate right next to my bed and next to her big brothers crate. At night she goes right to sleep. But anywhere from 4:15 - 5:20 she wakes up crying. When I get up with her she immediately goes to her potty pad. Last night she woke up at 1 went potty and went right back to bed and was back up at 5 (went potty and stayed up). I wish she would sleep in a bit longer but I won't discipline her because she is crying because she has to potty. Her bladder just needs to grow.:) |
At 12 weeks they do need to go out more. I know I got Lillie at 12 weeks and we were up quite a bit but she is 5 months now and has been sleeping all night for about month and a half. Just like human babies, some have weaker bladders than others, happens when they get old too. Good luck with Kali, I am sure she will sleep better soon. How big is she? Not sure if that makes a difference but I would imagine it would as my boxer who is now in Doggie heaven could hold it forever and trained so fast but the little ones are always harder. Mary |
Our's is a mantle/shelf ticking clock that I sit outside her crate. Wish I had thought to put it there sooner before loosing some sleep. |
Kali is only 1 lb 9 oz. right now. I'm sure that is why her bladder is so little. |

Lucky me!!!! All three of my dogs would sleep until noon if I did. Don't ask me why..... (I usually do let them out for a potty break around 8:00 every morning) After that - they're ready to sleep again. Carol Jean |

crazy because we get up at 6:00 during the week and I wanted to sleep in alittle on the weekends. I put a chew toy in the top drawer of the night stand and when he woke me up I reached in and gave it to him, only on the weekends and it did give me about 1/2 hr more until he got older. |
Hi, i know what you're saying!Hailey is 5 months old and since i got her (about a month ago ) i haven't had a good night sleep either!!! Since her crate is in my bedroom she wakes me up pretty early, usually around 4:30a.m.(because my husband goes to go work at that time)or sometimes around 6:00.But other nights she cries and whines at any time.............!!!! I usually try to keep her up until 10:00-11pm so that i get a little extra sleep in the morning but it does not work all the time:( |
Both of mine wake me up early every morning...between 5:30 and 6:30. But after I let them out to potty then they go right back to sleep. |
