Bye Bye Barking Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to get my yorkie to stop carring on whenever I leave in the morning? I have purchased a barking devise that sends off a peep into the dogs ear when he barks, dosen't work. I have purchased another devise that is suppose to release an order that reminds him of his mother to relieve his stress when I leave, dosen't work. I have tried vinegar and water squirt bottle does not work, it only makes him smell like vinegar. He is so good otherwise. Kong toys don't do it either. After two yrs. I am lost for ideas. You all come up with such good ideas hopefully someone can help me. I'd appriciate it. Thanks: |
try giving him a bully stick, should keep him busy for awhile |
I have never used one before. He is an aggresive chewer. Are they safe to leave alone while chewing on them? Do they come in sizes? |
they usually come in 6 inches and 12 inches.. i get lexi the 12inch ones. they last longer of course, plus they are digestable.. they dont break off into pieces like other bones, such as rawhide.. but i must warn you, they smell real bad, but who cares.. i think they also helps clean their teeth. better than any other bones |
I leave them with my girls.... and I don't find them all that smelly.... They are 100% digestible and mine have never had any prob's with them.... I feel more then safe with them. And if he is a chewer!!! He will love them!!! Just be sure to get the RED BARN brand... its the best! |
Thank you so much. I certainly will look into it. Lexi is adorable. |
Again thanks. I will look this weekend for the brand. Can't wait to try them out. Your baby also is just adorable. |
Where can you get the bully sticks? I'm in a rural area, can you get them online? Thanks, Julie :) |
There is a training collar that they have for dogs to make them stop barking. When the dog barks a spray is emitted from it. It is very unpleasant to the dog (not harmful) and the dog will hate it and learn not to bark. It works wonders, I have seen so many people use it with their dogs after they had tried everything else and now they don't have any barking problems. Its the most humane way and like I said, it works!!!  |
yup thats the citronella bark collar, it comes in two forms remote controlled and automatic. |
At least if he carries on when you leave - you're not there to hear it. Also, he may not bark long after you leave -- and he also may learn that it is doing him no good. Good luck - Carol Jean |
safe for yorkies? I recently read that the Citronella collars are not recommended for anxiety barkers (which is what I have), and also not recommended for dogs under 6 lbs. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? |
Dudley used to do the anxiety barking also. We tried everything, like you. Then I started just making my exit matter of fact without talking to him at all. After a few times of this he started watching me more and not barking. Now, he just stays on the couch looking at me when I leave. I hope this helps you. |
There is good information about this in many of the books that I've read. Try making leaving the house no big deal. Try to scramble the clues. Pick up your keys and carry them around the house. Put your shoes on and then go to the kitchen and do the dishes. Put your coat on and go into the bathroom. Etc. The dog will get so confused just trying to figure out what you are doing. Also, dudley is absolutely right. Make leaving no big deal. We have a problem right now with Loki barking at us while we are cooking. I'm sure in his head he is saying "GIVE ME SOME". We never let him beg and this is a new behavior so I don't know why it started. But now we just put him in his crate when he starts to bark and he gets to stay in there until we are done eating. So if he barks, he gets to miss out on all the fun. We just started doing this but I hope it helps. |
Thanks, I will try them all. |
