If puppies are like babies -- they are all different. Some babies sleep well from the get-go and others keep their parents up for months. I don't know what you can do. Perhaps as he gets older, he'll adjust better to your sleep pattern. My pup is about 9 months old now - and never wakes me up - but when I get up in the morning, I can tell that he has been up and has been doing things during the night. I find things moved around and toys out - for instance. At least, he's quiet. Good luck! Carol Jean |
Make sure you wear him out before bedtime. A long walk or long game of fetch are helpful. Try a small crate, you might be surprised. Loki would bang on the door to let us know he had to go out. For the first few months I set an alarm for every 3 hours, then 4, then slowly he started to sleep through the night. Better to wake up once than clean up a wet dog in the morning! He still needs to go out in the middle of the night once in a while, like if he drinks too much before bed, but he lets us know. Also, don't put up with any nonsense at night. Taking him out to pee is perfectly fine, but then it's back to bed and ignore him. After a few nights he will learn he is not getting attention at night and he'll behave. I do not suggest letting them sleep with you until they can hold it through the night. It's not forever. Loki now sleeps with us whenever he wants, usually when it's cold out. |
