She won't stop barking!!! Coco will not stop barking! I don't know the best way to train her not to bark all the time. Any suggestions?? She is 5 1/2 months old and is getting her adult teeth so I attribute some of her crankiness to that. Everytime I am not paying attention to her she comes over and starts barking at me. She wakes me up at 6:30 every morning barking at me even though my husband is awake to pay attention to her. She is driving me crazy!!! I have so many toys for her and we take her for long walks everyday...I am clueless on how to get her to just BE QUIET! ...at least she is cute so I can't stay too mad at her. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :animal36 |
Maybe its a southern Californian thing??? My pixie redefines the title of Nuisance Barker!!! She's a total Pain in the Ass when it comes to Barking!! And yes I mean it! My Paris does not bark, she whines a bit... And lets out a yap every now and then.... but Pixie can Bark for hours Non-Stop!! At my feet! At the Gate, In the Morning! I can't sleep! I cant go into the garage! Its awful!!! So if anyone has an answer..... I am going to hang out and find out too!!!! I have tried everything... Pay her No attention... I have found that she can go 3 hours before needing a nap.... She lays down for 10 minutes and then she is back at it!!! Its amazing! And I tried a sonic bark unit, the kind you set on a counter or table.... her dang bark is too high pitched to set the darn thing off!!! Thats why they say its for dogs 8 lbs and over! My husband can bark and make it work! lol It had a manual button! But I would have to sit right there with her and hit the button every time she barks.... It won't work while I am not home... and I can't get anything done. But the noise does work! She does not like it! |
Just received this link from Eukanuba about barking. http://www.eukanuba.com/en_US/jhtmls...&pti=PN&qi=114 |
Good info for someone who have never had a dog.... But My pix is a Nuisance Barker, plain and simple. She barks when we are with her , away, playing, resting, at the park, at home, at the game, in the car, you name it.... she barks.... I drove 10 hours from Northern California to Southern for the move... she barked non-stop 95% of the time.... Just ask Linda (lksdols) I called her from the road.... She could hardly hear me over the freakin barking... And it was nerve wracking! It was all I could do not to pull over at a truck stop and leave her there!!! (God forgive me for saying that! But I was Fried!!!) I love her, and I deal with it.... But boy is it a bummer! |
Kathryn & Aly, have you tried water spray? Quote:
GOOD LUCK, girlies, I would lose my mind if my girls barked like your Coco and Pixie, you poor things!! :( |
I feel sorry for all of you. My little Yorkie hasn't been much of a barker, but is beginning to bark more at 9 months (summer is here and he sees more people outside). He barks, but doesn't bark for long periods of time. His barking spells usually last for only a few minutes. I can stop my Yorkie if I just go and pick him up and walk around holding him and telling him to quit -- and getting him interested in something else. But, doing this isn't always convenient (like when you're on the phone, etc. - right?) I wish you all luck. I'm afraid that some people who come up with the "easy fixes" just don't have a dog that really barks as much as some others do. Some are almost impossible to stop. But - keep reading the posts - maybe someone does have the "miracle cure." Carol Jean |
Thanks for the advice. I have tried the penny can but not the spray bottle...So, i guess that will be my next step. That sounds more productive then me constantly begging her to stop barking (As if she know what I am saying to her). I think she is just spoiled. Coco wants ALL my attention ALL the time. At least she likes hanging out with me. I will keep grabbing toys o try to entertain her but she will just drop it and start barking at me again. UGH!! Kathryn, I completely understand what you are saying about in the car. Last week I drove to my parents, about an hour away, and Coco was in her crate barking the whole ENTIRE way. My Husband now thinks we need to get a second puppy so Coco has someone to play with all the time. But, I don't know if I am ready to start training another puppy!! Thanks for all the advice. I will let you know how the spray bottle goes. |
I have a suggestion I actually got it off another thread here recently. Georgie barks when people come in, if he sees people outside, to get my attention, just in general so here is what I have done. I started putting my hand around his mouth (not hard) like a muzzle and saying no barking very stern. I also tell my fiance' to do the same. I will tell it has REALLY worked! When he does bark (which he has slowed down tremendously) he will bark then look back at me as if to say is it okay to bark. I don't discourage him from going outside and barking at the squirrels or barking in the house occasionally when he hears noises since he is our little guard dog (LOL all 3lbs of him), but I know what you mean when they are in the house barking non-stop. Good luck just try it I was skeptical but it worked for us :D |
Oh wow, that's GREAT! Quote:
How do you get Georgie to let you do that? |

Well he runs sometimes and then I run after him looking like a complete goofball :D So far it has worked and I get exercise in the process:D He runs like a mad man when I have a toothbrush in my hand but that's another thread topic! LOL |

I tell you guys.... Some days I think I can't take another minute of her and the next I am totally inlove!!! I love my Pixie like you have no idea! I am praying that she grows out of this!! Please God let it be a phase!! She can't possibly keep this up forever!! She'll wear out her vocal chords! My mother suggested I get her debarked! And awful me actually thought about for like half a second! .... ugh! Did you even know you could do that??? they cut the vocal chords! And sometimes they grow back! (only a real Barker would actually grow new vocal chords!!!) I was floored when I first learned about it!!! I see it alot at the shows in the yappy breeds... I can't belive that you can show a dog that has been debarked! (none of them ever place!!!) They bark like a whisper... which is still awful to listen to, just not as loud!!! lol I just want there to be HOPE for Pixie and Coco... And no a friend did not help us! Just ask Paris.... She has to listen to Pixies barking too!!! Every now and then even she gets fed up and nails Pixie... its like she's saying... "Enough already!!! We hear you!!!" Paris is such a good girl, I am so very thankful that she has not joined in on the barking! Even my African Grey Parrot Tells Pixie to pipe down.... He says... "Pixie, No!" waits for her to stop and says... "Good Girl Pixie! Goooooood Girl!!" "Thats Mommy's Good Good Girl!" .... Any time she barks now... the bird starts up with the "Pixie... NO!" But he is good about giving praise!!! I guess I was consistent!!! lol The bad one is when the bird asks them if they "Want a treat Girls?" The poor Girls get so excited!!!!! :( :( |
oh.... and I hope that I did not offend anyone who has debarked their dog.... I know some people have had to due to living arrangements and what not.... Its really not that bad... I hear its not painful and so on... I was not passing judgement... I just thought it was a bit soon to jump to such drastic and final measures!!! And as far as the showing thing.... I don\'t think you should alter show dogs... If you can\'t train it for the ring, it does not belong in it.... JMO :p |
Kathryn, I am still laughing at your last posting. God bless them...and keep praying it is a stage they will grow out of! |
Now I lay her down to sleep, Praying she won\'t make a peep! If I should lie her wide awake, I pray the lord her bark to take! Theres my Prayer!!! :D |
