I got my girl when she was 9 months old and she started class at 11 months old. Joy |
Obedience classes Our little girl is 11 weeks old,we have had her for a week,I already have taught her to sit and come on command.I am working on stay now and she starts class on Saturday. The sooner you start the better.Make it fun and very short sessions, also find a treat she loves and you will get results faster. We use soft chicken treats that we bought from Petco,I break small pieces off and use for potty training as well as training, give lots of praise after she does what you want and give the treat immediately.Hope this helps. |

I know a breeder that takes the pups to classes before 12 weeks... and then when we get your pup at 12 weeks old... they come with a certificate and everything. interesting... i know someone that bought a pup from this breeder and she said her pup is well behaved compared to the other puppy she got from someone else. |
We are signed up... WEll, we are signed up. We start Beginner classes on the 26th. It should be fun. |
Daphne had her first class last week and she was 9 weeks at the time. We go again on Valentines Day, which is also my son's birthday! He will like that. :) |
Missy started at 10 weeks and just graduated from Basic Obedience last Friday. They learn very quickly. She still needs to get a longer attention span when "heeling" on the leash but she did well enough to graduate. |
Pixie is close to 7 months now and we start the Basic classes next weekend.... Hopefully it goes well! |
I have trained dogs all of my life so I started mine immediatley with the basics and all attended puppy kindergarten as soon as they were old enough. We continue to train and attend classes as well as have private training sessions when necessary depending what we are focusing on at the moment. |
Natalie started class at 10 weeks. We go for private lessons and she is doing very well. My first trainer said that she was stubborn and spoiled, but aren't they all? She is now 6 months old and doing very well. She can sit, down, heel and stay (for a short time) and is starting to mind even with distractions. We are now working on greeting other people without jumping on them, that won't be easy. Good luck, you just need a lot of patience. |
snickers started at 11wks old - she had her 1st class last week and sits on command but we arent getting too far on the biting... and she was learning loose leash walking and is doing ok with that after only one class... we will be going once a week but its nice-- like a relationship building type of thing i would highly recommend it :) |
Marty knew all of the basic commands at 10 1/2 weeks. We got him at 9 weeks old and started training him immediately. He never went to an official class, but he sure does a lot of tricks considering he is uneducated! :) Anyway, I think the earlier the better whether it's formal or informal training. |
Training Update [FONT=Georgia]Well, thanks for all the great comments. You were all right. We have been in training classes for 6 weeks and we both love it. Fagan has mastered the basic commands of sit, down, stay, come (which as I'm sure you know is a biggie!!) and we just started learning tricks this week. He can shake and roll over!! It is so cool for me to see his progression in learning all of these things! The trainer said he's one of the better Yokies she's seen as far as his performance goes. I would definately like to keep this going and I think he would too. He really seems to enjoy it and its good time for us to spend together. |
Kiki is 7 months and I will be taking him soon. |
