im not too good an this potty training stuff... ... but at least i know its my fault and not his! i am not very consistant. but i am trying my best! the only downside is, he has decided that his favorite place to go is on our bed! so i have had to wash our sheets almost every day. i wish he would find another place to go!!! ahhh but i cant be frustrated with him because he is just so darn cute. |
Did you want help? What are you doing now and what results would you like to see? The fact that he is intentionally going on your bed is concerning since that should be the one place that smells like you the most. Does he sleep with you or in his bed/crate? Is he marking? Do you crate train? Have you been to puppy class yet? |
Welcome to YT!!! Trust me we alllll know how cute they are and how we can't say no to them, but you must establish your authority, especially at a young age. If he is peeing on your bed, he shouldn't be getting on your bed. If he is going potty on your bed and you keep letting him back on, he thinks it's an ok spot to go. If you can't be consistent enough to take him outside, place him in the kitchen (or an acceptable spot to go potty on a pee pee pad) and close him in there until he does his business. Then praise the heck out of him before letting him out and giving him a treat to let him know he's found the right spot to go potty in. Meanwhile keep your bedroom door closed and I wouldn't let him sleep with you until he's potty trained, otherwise he'll just keep going in your bed. Hope this helped. |
oooh he is gonna be mad! haha. i think i will try that though. you are right, its wierd that he would pee where it smells like us the most. no more sleeping with mommy and daddy for a while! |
Potty Training I'm having a hard time training my yorkie. She is 8 months old, I have had her for 5 months. I tried using those pads and most of the time she would go on them while I was gone to work, but when I got home she would go where ever she chose. Now, when I put the pads out she tears them up...any suggestions...I'm about to move into a new house and would like to get her trained. Tinsley's Mom |
Come on Jackson.. It's really not that hard.. Your Mommy will give you loads of treats if you just go where she wants you too... BIG KISSES... Love, Your Valentine! |

You could getting a frame/holder for the pads. If she can't get ahold of the edge, maybe she'll leave them alone. Or if she starts playing with it, try redirecting her attention to a more appropriate play thing. My pup had a bad habit of doing this. She'd shred more pads than she'd pee on! I eventually just bought washable/resuable pads (there's no shredding these!!) and now I'd never go back to the disposables! |
Pad Training I am new to this whole doggy inside thing. You said something about frames and washable pads...do these seem to work? Where would I get something like that? Tinsley's mom |
You can get the frames at pet stores (Petsmart, Petco, Pet Supplies Plus, etc) Here's a few online retailers for the washable pads.... www.piddlepads.com www.valethics.com www.pishpad.com You can also check out this thread about the washables: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24163 |
