I was just curious to see what vets are recommending, I so seldom read of a vet recommending anything, unless they are a repo vet.

I know he did reccomend genetic testing as well as DNA testing ( if that isnt the same thing lol) When we go to the vet we have 5 dogs so im usually in charge of keeping them together and in line lol So anything else other then the dogs I am oblivious to.

I don't know why he would suggest DNA testing, it can only tell if the supposed parents were the parents. I don't really know all the tests, I'm not a breeder, but I think they suggest testing the legs and hips and there even a sexually transmitted disease that they can test for. A dog can get a sexually transmitted disease even if it's the first time for both. The disease can kill the puppies and mother, so it's good to test the male for this.

Washable and reusable dog and puppy pee pads, belly bands, and diapers by T. Bumpkins & Co. Teddy Bumpkin has the best belly band I have found. The site even tells you how to measure your dog for the correct fit.

TY :) Ill definatly send him the link. He has a female yorkie (fixed) Shes 12 lbs I want to say. Shes 3 so I know he knows a bit more then I do about them (we used to breed poodles. and Shelties and with shelties we did have to test their hips) but Ill definatly pass that on to him so he can see if there is any other tests we need to do before breeding :)

If I recall the article in the library it only references some very few tests. The above thread lists many more.

Your vet is not qualified (likely) to test for any eye diseases, unless they are a board certified opthamologist. The CERF evaluation forms need to be sent in by the opthamologist who does the examination.

The Xrays need to be sent into Orthopedic Foundation for Animals for independent evaluation.

I do hope that the financial risks of this breeding enterprise have been covered by your Mom. As you know C-sections are very expensive, as is good pre natal care and whelping and puppy rearing.

belly bands have made our lives easier but i'm stepping up house training a notch because i'm tired of the ugly brown color that the urine turns my dog's fur :( i dont want to have to use them anymore
