Potty pads or puppy litter? Hi, we are expecting our little Sophie to arrive in a few weeks and are wondering if anyone has trained their puppy to use puppy litter instead of pads? |
i have only tried potty pads. it comes in very handy in the winter. congrats on your pending arrival! |
I tried puppy litter at one time with my last yorkie. I bought a couple of the trays (so I could scrub one while still using one). And I used the paper pellets. I couldn't stand the SMELL of of the wet pellets. It was horrible. So I went back to the pads. I did put the pads in the trays though, so they were more contained...no accidently peeing on the edge & it getting the floor underneath. I just use pads with ZoE. She's much bigger than my last yorkie, so the trays seem too small for her, plus she really likes to sniff & circle around to find the right spot, so she likes a bigger potty area, made up of a couple of pads layed next to each other. |
I use the Big Squirt litter box. I took the grate and everything out and put peepee pads down. Riley Loves it!! I also covered the side walls with Leopard Duct Tape! LOL!! I also bought a Diaper Genie for the used pads so there is No Smell! Riley is pad trained as well as goes outside. It's sooo convenient because he travels a lot of places with me... and lot of friends houses... so I just show him where his Pad is and I've never had any problems. and no accidents [knock on wood...] :D RASCAL DOG LITTER BOX COMPANY, L L C HOME PAGE |
Potty Pads or Puppy Litter Thanks for the info about the litter smelling, I wondered if that was an issue and I really like the idea about using a tray for the puppy pads. My husband is going over the info I have gathered for a cost comparison but I think the pads will work best as we travel a lot with our pups too! Thank you both for your support on this issue. I just love YT and have been getting tons of help with great suggestions. Everyone here has been just great! Sophie's Mommy:aimeeyork |
