| Is she just being stubborn? Xena made five months old today. She is a well potty trained pup. I have a puppy proofed area set up in the kitchen for her to sleep and play in when I am not around. When I got her at 5 weeks she kept trying to pee by the door so i set up newpaper there and a pee pad a little further in the room. Since then she will poop on the newspaper and pee on either the news paper or her puppy pad. When I take her out of her room she won't use the restroom anywheres else, after a half hour or hour of play in the living room I'll take her back to her room and let her pee. She's been doing so well. Until now. In the past week or two I thought she was actually improving. She's been pooping on the pee pad so I thought she was doing better and soon would be able to take out the newspaper (which I have not done yet.) Apparently she's improving and digressing. The last two days I've been finding pee spots in her room on the tile floor. At first i thought it was just an accident like she missed the pad or got too excited. So I cleaned it up and didn't worry about it. Yesterday i watched her sniff around her pee pad then walk off and pee on the floor as if it was intentional. Do you think there is some kind of health issue with her suddenly starting to pee on the floor? Which I doubt. Is she hitting her terrible 2's stage in puppy years? Seeing her pee just anywheres in her room almost feel like she's trying to make a statement or doesn't care where she goes anymore. What are you're thoughts? Do you have any advice on getting her back on track. |

| First off, WOW! You got her at only 5 weeks old!?!?!?!?!? She could just be stubborn right now. Blazer is 5 1/2 months old now and he is usually really great about going to the door when he needs to go out but every once in a while, usually after a week or two of NO accidents, he'll just stand in front of me and pee with no warning! It's almost like he's testing me or something! When your girl does it is she aware that you are there and watcing her? How do you react when she deliberately pees on the floor? Do you still tell her how awesome she is when she potties "properly?"

| Yeah, that part was kind of a sad story. My brother's girlfriend,Tammy, had a yorkie that got pregant with the neighbor's terrier. When the puppies were born I was promise the girl in the small litter. I thought i would have to wait a while before the puppies could be separated from the mama but when the pups were 5 weeks old Tammy's Dad left the front door open and the mama got out. They looked everywhere but never found her. They think one of the neighbors took her. Luckily the pups had been on dog food for a week so they told me I could take the puppy. I wanted to get Xena as soon as they okayed it because I was afraid they would sell her to someone else. I think she is being stubborn. It really feels like she's in her terrible 2's stage. She did good the other day but yesterday and today she did it again. It's been kind of random. Sometime me or my sister or someone would be in the room with her. Other times she would be alone. I have noticed it is in the same spot almost every time. The first time I caught her i told her 'no' picked her up mid pee and put her on her pad, but she whimpered when I lifted her and she didn't pee again to finish for a while so I felt kind of bad for it. Usually I give her a firm no and then clean up the mess. I am starting to think maybe I should put newspaper down in that spot. If I move the pad 6 inches over I think she might pee on the floor where the pad was. She did that once when she had dragged he pad to the other end of the room. I do praise her if Im in the room when she potties in the right spot. Most of the time I'll tell her 'good girl' and pet her little head. Im not sure how effective that is. |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I would make sure the places she peed on is cleaned and then cleaned with an enzyme cleaner. They can smell it even if you can't. I would get this book How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days by Shirlee Kalstone . I think it can really help you. Amazon has it. Good luck and keep us updated
