do you prefer boy or girl yorkie? hello everybody! i am getting a male yorkie in a few weeks..he will be about 12 weeks..ive been told boy yorkie are a lot harder to house train and tend to be more aggressive than girl yokies..Now i am a little nervous..what are people thoughts and opinions on this matter? |
I probably will have boy dogs for the rest of my life - LOVE them. Grew up with girls, and nothing against them, but I just mesh better with boy dogs. Jackson is wonderfully trained, and enjoys learning. He potty trained very quickly and is not aggressive at all. Actually female dogs tend to be more aggressive in my experience, they have that "bitchiness" about them sometimes LOL... |
i have one of each and love them both. havent had lola more than a month but they are both sweethearts. |
I love my little boy! He's about 15 weeks and is doing very well with his housetraining =D |
Teaka is my first girl dog. Always had males. For training, I prefer a girl. Males, when they lift the leg, there is no control where that pee is going. lol I think in the future if I were to get another dog, I'd pick a male. I find males are more mellow where females are a bit more on edge. |
Everyone has their preference, but all else being equal, those precious little boys...OMG!!! After they have been neutered, their sole existance on this Earth is to love you!! They will bond so closely, so tightly,......you go ahead and get your little boy...you get him neutered by 6-8 months of age, before the hormones start to flow, and he will squat the rest of his life, just like a little girl....no harder to potty train than a little girl! I adore those prissy little girls, but just like human little girls, they can cop an attitude in a heartbeat....like someone above has said,"....that bitchiness about them sometimes...", but those little boys....gotta adore them! Little Snugglebugs is ALL they are! All I ever had was females when I was growing up, even until I started getting Yorkies, before I started breeding.....then I bought my first little male, my little Bumper....he is gone now, but that precious little soul still has a huge piece of my heart....that is when I began to realize the difference in little boys....and now, breeding, everyone want little girls....I can have all my little girls gone as soon as I show them as available... no one wants the little boys....and I have had to keep a few around for longer than I really want, until just the right person comes along...and those little boys bond with me soooooo tightly....I have to start separating myself from them....they dont want to leave! I treasure and adore ALL my babies, but I LOVE those little boys, clear to the depths of my soul! |
My male was much more easier to train in everything than my female |
it doesn't matter to me . i have male & female pets my whole life. i love both |
Some of us are what I call Male Mommies, and some Female Mommies, and I suppose some may not definitely gravitate towards either sex. I've not found it too hard to train the males, some challenges sure; and I'll chat about that in a minute. I think overall Yorkies might be a bit harder to house train then other breeds. But that just means you really really have to be on top of the business of house training. Now in my experience the females do tend to be a bit moodier, even the spayed ones. And oh my the unspayed ones....God grant me the patience! Which he has, but sometimes I find difficult to deal with. Also most passive/aggressive dogs I've dealt with have been females. I know this is a bit of anthropromorphilizing (sp?) but females in my experience in obedience, kind of resist subtly, then give you that look.. do you know what I mean? A sidewise glance that says, okay whatcha going to do about this slow sit, or yeah I heard you say come, but off I go......... Now my males, don't resist subtly, they say to your face Nope no way Not going to do that!. they challenge you face to face as it were. I much prefer that! So you take that challenge and meet it head on. And then, they submit or obey if you will; and no moping or any hard feelings. To me males are often more up front, and yes gosh do they bond with their Mommies. Totally always loyal to a "fault". Yet my males can and are often independent of me, but are there in a flash if I need them. What else can I say? We are just so sympatico with each other. Hope this helps. |

Well, each dog is an individual just like people but in general, I think boys are much more easy going and happy go lucky, eager to please. Typically, if you are going to have an issue with 2 dogs, it's usually 2 girls... I will say that unneutered male dogs do have a tendency to mark inside but not always and sometimes girls will do that too but it's pretty rare.... I have both boys and girls, by the way.... |
thank you for your thoughts to all yorkie parents!!! i will love my baby boy...its funny, the breeder that im getting my puppy from charges more for girls...thats why im asking... |

I like the boys..... |
I prefer little boys- however, I adore my little girl as well- she can be a HUGE brat, but she is MY brat. |
Definitely girls! they rule. What is it the boys do again? oh that's right.. drool ;) |
I have both girls and boys. I prefer girls, I guess because I always grew up with all female dogs. My girls never fight and have wonderful personalities, they are cuddly as can be and playful. That said, they do mark like little boys, so just know getting a girl doesn't guarantee that they won't mark. Now my mom prefers boys. The boys love her and are very dedicated to her. I really like both but the girls just gravitate towards me while the boys gravitate towards my mom. Her boys are cuddly and playful just like my girls are cuddly and playful. There is a saying for yorkies that goes, female yorkies love you while male yorkies are in love with you. I would say that is pretty accurate. |
It depends on the individuals personality! I had great luck with training male yorkies and found female chis were easier in that breed. |
I have 3 boys and they just love me to bits. My girl fur baby who passed away years ago was so sweet so it is really a matter of who you bond with. Cannot wait to see pics :) |
My vote is girl's not as stubborn. but depend's on the dog.:p |
My little boy OWNS me! He is the first male dog I have had as an adult. I almost didn't get him because he was a "HE"! Oh my gosh am I glad I did! He is so laid back, has good manners, picks his clothes out of the laundry basket and is very attached to my husband and I. He was spayed when he was 6-7 months old and to this day he does not lift his leg to pee nor does he mark!!!! My daughter has a female yorkie (spayed) and she is a true DIVA but also very loving and affectionate. |
I dont know why but weve only had boys, I love them better. |
I think all dogs are unique and born with their own little personality which you will help mold through training and love. :) I have never had a girl Yorkie, but rescued a girl mixed breed and she was exceptionally difficult to train and would run away at any opportunity. All of my boy dogs have been very attached to me and loving. I have only had Max for 4 months now (I got him at 12 weeks too). He is the only Yorkie I have ever had and I will say he is the absolute love of my life!!! You are going to love him to death! Congratulations!!! |

I have both...I don't really know which i prefer. My little girl is sooo laid back, she loves to be groomed..actually comes running when she sees the brush, and she will sit for me to put her bow in! Orion (my boy) will fight me when i try and put a top knot in! As soon as its in...he will paw at it to get it out! He does'nt sit still for a minuite always going....BUT he is far easier to train than his sister. He will sit on command where his sister...although she knows the command will stand there and look at me...selective deafness I guess. Orion loves to snuggle though, where Raelle will snuggle when she feels like it. The leg lifting....OMG!!! The stinker peed on his sister's head!! At 4am when I'm trying to get out the door for work...this is not cute, cuz now i have to give her a bath! He's quite happy with himself when he does this of course...tail wagging and big smile...'I'm a good boy mom I peed outside!' I love putting bows in their hair so I guess I prefer a girl in that sense. I'm looking to add another one within the next 6mths...no idea which i will get yet....hmmmm boy or girl??? |
I have one each. I always prefered girl's. In Dec I was given my yr old male from a lady no longer wanting the breed. She had 3 yorkies. I ask to take him on trial to see if he would get along with my female. After keeping him for 2 wks there was no way he was going back. He is so sweet and such a lap dog. I love my female but she has a mind of her own. She likes to be nx to me but not in my lap. My male gives more kisses and loves to be cuddled. Maybe it's just her but it sure has changed my thoughts of males. |
most of my dogs have been girls. had 1 male (german shepherd) many years ago that was unexpectedly dumped on my doorstep by a so-called friend. that unfortunately didn't work out. i still prefer females. i tend to get along better with them...so far at least. |
It doesn't matter to me. I fall in love with their personalities. |
