should i leave a night light on? hello everybody! I am going to get my new yorkie in a couple of weeks.. he will be about 12 weeks old...I plan to have him sleep in his crate in the kitchen at night. I was wondering, should a leave a night night on? Do they prefer that? or does it interfere with sleeping? what do most yorkie parents do when they bring a baby home?

I LOVE you are all excited and worrying about every little detail!!! I dont think they really mind if you have one or not...they have night vision and can see in the dark much better than we do! Occasionally, when I have a new litter of babies, and they are in their whelping pen with momma, at the foot of my bed, I will leave a night light on so I can see them whenever I raise up to check on them during the night, without turning on a light, disturbing momma and babies....with the little light, I can just open one eye and look to be sure everyone is OK and no one is getting laid on or pushed away....you can do likewise....because if your baby falls asleep......FINALLY, AFTER CRYING FOR WHAT WILL SEEM LIKE A LONG TIME....YOU DONT WANT TO DISTURB HIM/HER!!!!....with a little lite, you can just quietly peep over at him and see what he is doing....

Do you live close to your breeder? Call her and have her put a little blanket in with the momma and siblings....something you can bring home with you and the baby, that will have everyones scent on it that she knows, so she wont be so lost in such a new place...I always have my new parents bring me a tee shirt they have slept in, to put in with momma and the kids...then the baby smells New Momma (you!) on the tee shirt and is familiar with that smell....and when you bring baby home, you bring your tee shirt with momma and kids smell on it, as well as your smell, to go in the crate with baby at night...seems to help with the crying and loneliness....

In the beginning we had a night light on so I could see Ahi. We now only leave a night light on in the bathroom where her potty pad is.
