Yorkie Yakker | Excessive licking Mylee is 1 yr. She licks our feet, faces, ears, all over. It gets annoying. What's up with that? Is it just kissing or is she missing something in her diet?

| She loves you! Max went through a stage like that and then quit. The only time he licks now is when I am trying to comb him and he smells the soap on my hands. I tell him, "no licky licky" and he quits.

| Chip is like this and he's unstoppable. He's licking my feet right now, which is a nightly ritual for him. He won't sleep without licking my feet.

| I've read it is a submissive behavior. I had to teach Dori, "no lick", as it was getting annoying. She is much better now, at 18 months, but still manages to sneak a couple in at times.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Jillie failed her therapy dog test the first time for just that -- excessive licking! I'd never discouraged it because it doesn't bother me, but I can see why they wouldn't want a dog licking people in a hospital setting. So I just addressed in like I would anything I teach her. She got rewarded for no licking. I'd put my hand out, she'd like, and I'd say No Kisses. As soon as she heard the word 'no' she stopped, and that's when I rewarded her with a treat. Eventually I got to the point where I could tell her No Kisses and them put my hand out right in front of her. If she refrained, she got a treat. It hasn't totally stopped her from licking, but at least now I can control it. And she passed the therapy dog test a few months later on her next try.
